I recently decided to start my own band, after many years of playing guitar. I have just started my journey into the world of singing and its been a real rocky road, some days are great and some days i feels like I've borrowed someone else's voice (just absolutely no command over my voice), but since I've subscribed to your channel, my resonance and head voice has picked up amazingly. So much so that I did my first vocal recording and I couldnt believe it was my voice! Thanks again Robert!

Now I get it .. Thanks Mr.Robert you are truly a vocal teacher because you demonstrate what you taught not like other vocal coaches online especially. Thanks once again and hope to be learning more from you sir.

Falsetto works at particular points, for particular people. It's just another thing you can do. I would say if you think falsetto is weak, listen to the Bee Gees. It's amazing how much control and pitch accuracy those guys did when doing the high stuff like Too Much Heaven et al. They used a very thin sounding falsetto instead of that really open one you used here. For me, I don't know if boiling it down to 6 sounds makes any sense. It's just one person's categories. What about that fry sound? wouldn't that be another sound/style you could make?

thanks for the reply. I will prob watch more of your YT vids and also check out this link you've replied with. I might get something out of it and at least have more fun singing than I do now. I am kind of a bass/baritone so singing those high rock tunes... I can't do it in my real voice or head voice or any voice so I have been cheating and pitching me up. hehe anyway, I shant bother you further unless I have some specific question but I know you are busy. thx again.

You are a great teacher and u know what you are talking about and i appreciate the videos. Especially the "mixed voice is dead" i agree and thank you for explaining that. Thank you so much!!! You have demonstrated what I've been wanting to hear for so long and I couldn't find it in any other video. When I'm practicing I don't know what I need to work towards, there are videos that say, "oh it's just place your larynx here and more breath support blah blah..." and I don't know what it should feel like to sing the high notes with a full chesty resonance. But you demonstrated shiftiing from falsetto to full voice and it gives me an idea of what it should feel like because I tried doing that before and felt like I was on the right path but something was missing. I guess I'll have to try it again but this time with more insight.

Robert is definitely right about this. I started with a range that couldn't even cover my full chest voice when I first started. After a year of incorrect practice, I restarted from a clean slate. No talent at all. Once I found out about covering and twang (Just the free YT videos by the way), I now have a much richer head voice than before. Even my quietest head notes now sound manlier than the loudest of my previous ones. Also, the tightened up falsetto was my previous approach. Not right.

Robert, you are absolutely correct. I honestly can't even figure out his logic behind anything he said. It doesn't take years of study, practice, and experience to know what he is saying is absolutely ridiculous. At least you tried...

Great video. I sing in head voice all the time when I am teaching children and this caused my voice to change a lot up there (for the better). I can sing in a much lower range than I used to be able to in head voice, and still retain power. But for me the twang seems like it is not exactly healthy for the voice.

+Robert Lunte Hey Robert, I have a major problem with always flipping into falsetto... Now mind you I think my falsetto is probably more prominent and workable than many other males. But I'm dead set on learning 'twang mode,' I just have no clue where to begin.. the range of my falsetto usually isn't bad, when I can actually get the tone right I can hit E5 and just a little above that, for example when hitting that high note at the end of the chorus of 'Take On Me.' If your saying I could still hit that note if I learned Twang...I'd be...SO HAPPY...

Well, im a rock singer, so firstly (and awesomely!), that inhaling scream is a revelation! I would struggle to find my mixed register from the get-go, so the vocal twang helped me to engage it immediately. The exercise using MEHO, it loosens my neck up and places the vibrations in my mask. I still have alot to work on though, but more fun now. Could you please do a vocal warm up lesson? Its one of the most important, yet dreadful things for me to do. I want to be sure that i do the right thing.

I have never been able to tap into my falsetto. I go from chest-head with my vocal cords thinned out by default. I was very concerned and went to ENT (Ears, Nose and Throat) and was told I have cords that of a female 😂 But I do admire that smooth sexy falsetto sound, I just can't do it. Whenever I try, it goes straight into what I would deem as my classically head voice. Btw, I'm a student of opera! Great video 😀

The Estill method unfortunately was based on observation of incorrect singing so most of the concepts are wrong for example classical singing is not primarily low larynx but unfortunately many singers do depress their larynx. The falsetto is a mechanism that needs more respect and is the key to great singing. One should spend a few years developing the falsetto before progressing to head voice. A healthy, developed falsetto will create the stretch (elastic scaffolding) that is needed in the vocal folds to be able to successfully incorporate the thickening process ( ie. adding the chest voice). One can develop the chest voice simultaneously but I would recommend staying below middle C until the falsetto is strong enough to blend with the chest to create the mix. This process takes time and there are NO short cuts to great singing.
@okebaram10 жыл бұрын
Jussi, you have a point. There are some people, usually ladies who almost talk in head voice, its comes natural for them owing to their natural voice types, but for everyone else (majority) who is an untrained/undeveloped singer, I don't believe they can get to "find" or strengthen their head voice without falsetto first
@JussiPaul10 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Trying to find it will only result in constriction. Great singing takes a lot of time and dedication. If it were that easy then the world would be full of amazing singers.

I thought this video had useful elements but got some things totally incorrect regarding tone of head voice, it sounded like a pressed sort of mix you can do to slighlty delay head-voice without a belt, but head voice is gentle, and relaxed, twang is added. It was wrong just from the sound for me, and I am a total beginner 1 year, I think a higher vocal placement for the demonstration might have helped the good bits. Head voice is wide eyes deep breaths, smiling mouth to activate the space and good posture to open the throat (from a novice) then you can hit head voice, but you can also really hurt yourself because in this zone any tension can cause two opposing muscles to activate and its much more risky that getting a smooth glide into a head voice sound. whether forward, or operatic.

Informative video. I am new to singing (not young, just new to singing, never did it) and am a high baritone with a falsetto to about E5 (with a little pushing) or F5 (with much pushing). Read about the dreaded vocal nodes and am a bit paranoid as I have been practicing those reaches for a few weeks. Going to stop, rest voice, and pull back to D. Range should expand automatically as I gain more confidence at D and below. Right?

Good day Professor Lunte, I have a quick question for you. When I sing with my head/twang voice and try to reach those very high screams like you just demonstrated in the video. Well I can get to a certain pitch but after that my voice starts to crack. Does this mean I can't and will not reach that high pitch note? Or what does this mean in particular? You have some immense talent and thank you so much for the uploads. Your comment is really appreciated in advanced! Have a great one!
