This is heartbreaking. She was one of my faves growing up. I don't know how many times I sang along to, "Out Here On My Own" on my 45. That song was on repeat as a kid. I loved Fame, first the movie, then the TV series. If you haven't seen the movie DC Cab, you should look it up. It was hilarious. A lot of great actors was in it including Ms. Irene Cara. She was a very gifted and talented woman and was wrongfully taken advantage of in the industry. Rest in Peace Ms. Cara! Your work will forever live on. 🙏🥺❤️

I was an 80s teen and this song is one of the classics. This song came out when I was in 6th grade. I had always enjoyed the song since my youth. Recently, I had actually been listening to this song while preparing for 10k races this week. The upbeat tempo and Irene's vocal talent make the song great for workouts. The energy in the song was awesome. RIP - Cara's vocal talent lives forever on KZbin.

As was I, and the movie resonated with me too. I was a bit young to grasp nuance but I did understand the obvious themes despite not yet having lived (most of ) them personally (yet). My eyes and head was filled with the romance of it all and I too, was made for "greatness!" Well, not so much... :-) but I'd love to see the movie again as if I recall correctly all parts were beautifully performed and the issues def still relevant. Very sad abt Irene Cara.

I have loved the music on the Fame soundtrack & I used to dream of being a choreographer, ever since I was in my high school dance team. I loved watching Debbie work, and she was a huge reason for the success of the movie, along with the fantastic songs. My name really IS Debbie Allen & I'm always happy when someone knows who Debbie Allen, the choreographer is bc I feel connected to her by the love of dance. I injured my lower back at 15 years old and it has grown to a point where I can't even work anymore. I'm turning 65 soon & I still adore Irene's voice & the movie. I bought the movie & soundtrack. I was so sad to see her go but she's still with us within her songs.

One thing with growing up in this era is you were always present. I didn’t have a cell phone, text, internet, answering machine, caller ID. There was a time I didn’t even have call waiting. You lived in the moment.

Irene Cara was such a talented, and versatile performer. From her acting: Fame, Sparkle, Aaron Loves Angela, Certain Fury, Roots: The Next Generations, to her electrifying performances of the singles Fame, Flashdance - What a Feeling, to the heartfelt, On My Own, she gave us iconic moments! Being an 80's kid she was my crush, and provided so many wonderful memories in my childhood. I was truly shocked, and saddened to hear of her passing today. My condolences to her family, friend, and fellow fans. Thank you Irene for sharing your gift with the world and being an inspiration to so many. Your name, and artistry will be remembered forever!! R.I.P. Irene🙏🙏🙏

At that time kids (we) didn't cry about how we were gendered or identified, we cried out of the real pain we had to endure for having the life we believed in and fought to keep it this way, RIP 80s
@keithanderson8824

Just because you didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen. No, the kids were still crying about how they were gendered or identified, but they were doing it alone, in the closet for fear of being expelled, fired, institutionalized, disowned, beaten, or killed for being gay, or trans, or some other kind of "other". They just put on a happy face and clothes that didn't reflect who they were and pretended to fit in.

I'd gladly go back to the 80's at the drop of a hat. So carefree, and so much fun. Music, TV, Films, Videogames and Technology were just really starting to achieve the beginning of their potential. What a time to be alive. It makes me cry!

What I love about this, other than the motivating song is the many demographics of people, and culture all mixed in one. People were cool with each other back then. Nobody gave a second thought to race. The only thing that mattered was if you were a likeable person. Now it seems race is the one and only defining characteristic of people. I find that sad
