This is heartbreaking. She was one of my faves growing up. I don't know how many times I sang along to, "Out Here On My Own" on my 45. That song was on repeat as a kid. I loved Fame, first the movie, then the TV series. If you haven't seen the movie DC Cab, you should look it up. It was hilarious. A lot of great actors was in it including Ms. Irene Cara. As was I, and the movie resonated with me too. I was a bit young to grasp nuance but I did understand the obvious themes despite not yet having lived (most of ) them personally (yet). My eyes and head was filled with the romance of it all and I too, was made for "greatness!" Well, not so much... :-) but I'd love to see the movie again as if I recall correctly all parts were beautifully performed and the issues def still relevant. Very sad abt Irene Cara.

I loved watching Debbie work, and she was a huge reason for the success of the movie, along with the fantastic songs. My name really IS Debbie Allen & I'm always happy when someone knows who Debbie Allen, the choreographer is bc I feel connected to her by the love of dance. I injured my lower back at 15 years old and it has grown to a point where I can't even work anymore. I'm turning 65 soon & I still adore Irene's voice & the movie. I bought the movie & soundtrack. Just because you didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen. No, the kids were still crying about how they were gendered or identified, but they were doing it alone, in the closet for fear of being expelled, fired, institutionalized, disowned, beaten, or killed for being gay, or trans, or some other kind of "other". They just put on a happy face and clothes that didn't reflect who they were and pretended to fit in.

I'd gladly go back to the 80's at the drop of a hat. So carefree, and so much fun. Music, TV, Films, Videogames and Technology were just really starting to achieve the beginning of their potential. What a time to be alive. It makes me cry!

What I love about this, other than the motivating song is the many demographics of people, and culture all mixed in one. This is who we are, normal people unknowingly representing every country around the world. We are a country of immigrants which makes us unique from any other. This is our strength

People were cool with each other back then. Nobody gave a second thought to race. The only thing that mattered was if you were a likeable person. Now it seems race is the one and only defining characteristic of people. I find that sad
@tinadraper91432 жыл бұрын
Yup I'm native American and grew up with all races, I never even thought it was an issue til I saw trumpies chanting build that wall, I had to switch parties after that. I am prolife and realized only certain lives matter to them.

Unique from any other?! You are just highlighting the ignorance of the U.S! Do some homework. Find out REAL history from around THE GLOBE! The TV series was great. I agree. But seek out a wider perspective on culture and history and you miiiight just become a bigger better person!

It's such a honor to be a "dancer"...such a disciplin...request braveness, doesn't matter if you're famous or not...dance is a great, great pleasure...it unites us all

The record company stole from Irene Cara! Then she sued them, and to get back at her. Cara was black balled, and they never paid her. They stole from her! RIP, Irene Cara!

Another artist who's song influenced my early years. Everyone watched FAME when I was a kid, more the telly show than the actual movie but the theme song always stays with you. Corker of a track when it came out.

Rest in peace, Irene Cara, you were the voice of a generation. This and What a Feeling are two of the great songs of the early 1980s, and they're still great to listen to 40 years later.

Irene was quoted as saying during an interview..."I never doubted I would be a star one day. I was told that as a little girl." A true Triple Threat (dance, sing, act)!!
