It's a shame that the PPU UA6538 chip does not have the ability to switch to 60 Hz, and most of them are found in clones

hello! this mod is made in Argentina.
@PablojRomero4028 жыл бұрын
Hi, your video appear in my recomended feed. A friend and I discovered this mod a few years back, one detail you forgot to mention is that this will not work on all tvs sets. In most the LCD/LED i tested it, it shows weird colour or its just black and white. Also some CRT have problems with this as well.
@TheMrJamu8 жыл бұрын
That's the problem with PAL60 mode. At least PAL CRTs (probably modern NTSC CRTs too) are quite tolerant to deviating frequencies. LCD sets have problems. This is due to the fact that the embedded controllers do not "understand" PAL60, as it is not a standard.
@PablojRomero4028 жыл бұрын
In my experience it ussually works with sets that support multiple standards. Here in Argentina, there are a lot of those that supports PAL-N (the standard here) PAL-M (Brasil) and NTSC and it ussually works. With older tvs that support only PAL and NTSC, doesnt work at all, unless they have manual vertical adjustment The same happens with really old PAL only tvs. Some guy in Spain also shown that it seems to work on some Plasma monitor. retrogaming.com.ar/forum/viewtopic.php?p=459276#p459276

Thank you bro! Always wanted a correct speed/music for all my NTSC games and with the PAL NES you can't do anything. I bought a Brigtmon DV-72 (Nes clone) only to perform this mod and everything has come to good port, sadly the image quality is not the best, but the difference with the mod is night and day. I only paid 14 € with shipping for it!

One strange thing, just in case you have any idea. My famiclone (Brigtmon dv-72) had the voltage regulator fried, I put a 7506 and also a new capacitor that was blown. Once I have done the 50-60hz mod I notified the "voiced" sounds like "FIRE!" in Wild Gunman or the "Hey" "Yo" samples on The adventures of Bayou Billy were not sounding right, they are high pitch noises or they will directly not play. It's not a random issue, it sounds OK on the rest of channels, but it seems that these "PCM" samples are not going to play on my console. Do you know if this is a common issue in some famiclones or provoked by the 50-60 mod? Thanks!!
@TheMrJamu2 жыл бұрын
This console also had the blown voltage regulator :) Thanks for the info. I will test those games. You tried the US versions?

You can probably use the same tricks as with the original Famicom. So placing a capacitor between the pins 22 and 20 might help a bit. I might try some experiments later.

Hello there @TheMr Jamu. Have you tried that method to other famicom clones? Or is it only compatible with specific Dendy clones? Thank you!
@TheMrJamu6 жыл бұрын
Yes, It was one of those grey coloured and with original Famicom looks. Most clones that were made before late nineties can be modded with this method - if equipped with same chips as seen in this video.

Thank you so much for your reply friend. There's very little information on the subject online, and your work is literally lifesaving for so many people. I hope you'll continue your great projects, and if possible to do a more explanatory video on modding other PAL famicom clones to 60hz. Be well!

Hi bro, I just did the same to my Creation (exactly, the same nes clone as you) and the only result that I get is a color swap in Mario, it seems that does not affect the machine. Also chips are the same as yours. Is there another way to make the mod? thanks!

Well, you can swap the chips and crystal from NTSC NES - but that's not an option for most of us. Sorry, I don't know any other ways.

It should work. Try taking the 5V straight from the 7805 voltage regulator.

I just noticed that in my board from pin 14 to 17 are all ground in PPU socket, should it be just pin 20? Because i'm getting 5V from pin 40, but when I inject to pin 16 my console dont turn On and i'm scare of blowing my PPU :S Thanks for replying ;)
@JP_Albuquerque_8 жыл бұрын
well I just tried to take the 5V from de voltage regulator and is the same....wont turn On...i guess I'm stuck with 50HZ :(
@JP_Albuquerque_8 жыл бұрын
Maybe I'm doing it wrong...you put a switch and i see you inject the 5v on the board, not directly to the 16 pin, is that make any difference?
@TheMrJamu8 жыл бұрын
The only reason for that switch is to enable 50Hz/60Hz to be selectable. So you don't actually need the switch at all if you prefer to have your console in PAL60 mode all the time. Sorry, I don't think that I am able to help you here. When I'll have some spare time I'll check my own console and see if there is true NTSC mode available etc...

This Isn't PAL 60Hz That NTSC 60Hz
@TheMrJamu3 ай бұрын
You are mistaken, my friend. This is still a PAL signal, retaining its 4.43 MHz color subcarrier and all other standard PAL characteristics. The only modification is that it runs at 60 Hz instead of the usual 50 Hz, which is why it's commonly referred to as PAL60. It’s not a true NTSC signal, as the color subcarrier frequency is not 3.58 MHz. Essentially, it's a standard PAL signal that has been sped up to support 60 frames per second for smoother gameplay.

Toivottavasti Google käännetty hyvin. Yllättäen arvasit oikein? Emme yritä löytää toinen hyppääjä muuntaa NTSC?
@TheMrJamu8 жыл бұрын
Yes. If you lift the pin 16 and connect it to 5V then it's PAL60. You can't get the real NTSC out of this but PAL60 is possible with this trick.

These "Dendy" clones were quite popular in russia?

Some of famiclone consoles have 2 or 3 jumpers which allow to switch console to NTSC with crystal change. Maybe this chip has such option
@vagats8 жыл бұрын
I am from Ukraine, but Yes it is very popular in ex USSR terretory.

In my opinion marks NP on chips means NTSC PAL. I lifted the 17 pin and connect it to 5v. Screen started to blinked. And my tunner recognized it as NTSC. But when I changed the crystal. I got monochrome screen. I think it needs one more jumper as i got in other famiclone - three jumpers to got full NTSC. But I didnt find it, need some research more

A verse muy mala calidad la imagen son color y provocando un desbalanceado de fósforo . Es decir manchan la pantalla . Lo mal interprenran. Lo que recomiendo . No hacerlo. Ya que dañan la consola. Y dañan el tv
