Yep love the intro - nice quick and very recognizable. Kudos to you for fixing up those two poor Famicoms! They turned out great.

Awesome intro, bro! It was short, sweet and downright awesome! Great job on the consoles. I don't even care about the discoloration. For me, the only enemies are dirt, dust and rust. A clean machine is all I want. Again, awesome job.

Would like to know what products and processes you're using to clean up the corrosion and/or rust on the jacks and cartridge edge connector. Those might be good general videos to make, since those will apply to lots of other systems!

@RobertNES8169 жыл бұрын
Good work! It's. always a good feeling when you bring back these old systems! The old Famicom/NES systems always seem to work. Anything that's wrong with them is usually just age related from sitting. Nintendo's quality control must have been very high back in the 80's.

Mmm, crunchy. lol Great to see them working, Thought it may have been mainly the cart port, there really isn't much to a Famicom is there. Had a issue with my NES when I bought it, opened it up, repositioned some of the 72 pin connector pins and hey presto, NES fun. :D

With the contact wear on the controllers, is there a way to fix that? I got an NES for Christmas and one of the controllers has that. Also some of the rubber is missing as well. Is there a way to fix that without the chance of burning myself with a lighter?

Wow, those systems cleaned up nice. I guess there's nothing to be done for the sun damage, but other than that they look great! Also, I never knew that the cartridge for Super Mario USA was such an amazingly bright pink. :p

A few months ago I got a Famicom off ebay for a couple bucks. It worked perfectly for about a half hour... then the graphics started getting jumbled up like a dirty cartridge. I turned it off, cleaned the game, and it never worked again. I've tried all the games I have and none of them work. I wish this thing had some sort of LED so I know if it's even turning on. (it just stays static when I turn it on) I guess I'll just try giving it a good clean to see if that helps.

@John-dz6vm9 жыл бұрын
Will these power up in the USA or do you have to buy a converter?
@HokusaiXL9 жыл бұрын
+J G You can plug the original power brick into US mains. Japanese wall outlets are 100v where as US is 110v, which means (because of the windings of the transformer) it will output 11 volts instead of 10 volts DC. A discrepancy that the 7805 regulator can more than handle.

Great. Thank you!

+RedRanger2001 Thank you. At the time I was waiting for my Famicom from Japan (like a month) and came across a couple of NOS Genesis Model 1 Adapters on Ebay. I have since used both the Famicom and Genesis adapters with no problem. I think the Genesis adapter does gives you some piece of mind though even if its not necessary. And since my NES adapter quit working it was nice to have a replacement on hand for that console as well. Later

I do love the outer case on the first one fades from Ewwww to ok :P Oh you could hear the 20+ years of dirt stuck inside that open leaver when you popped the game out! Are there no suppliers in Japan that deal with the membranes? Or even would the membrane from an NES controller fit in a famicom controller? Anyway great job on the repairs looking very clean!

Hi Luke, I have a famicom Japanese same model as you have but I have no sound. Picture is great through RF (UK TV) but no sound on the games I have. Have you got any idea what would cause this? Many thanks. Dave .T
@1313xt7 жыл бұрын
I have same problem with NES toploader i got. I know why thou most likely. My toploader is NTSC but come without RF switch box. Only RF-s I have are all PAL... Picture comes trough ok but no sound (well if i but tv on max, there is some sound but its hidden behind lots of buzzing). So most likely You have NTSC system with PAl tv? Try trough video cassete player. Some of these can convert NYSC/pal signals.

Unless it’s a Japanese TV, the Famicom shows on channels 95 and 96 for 1 and 2 respectively. Those are not exact numbers, but as close as you can get.

hey luke, awesome videos! I have been using some of these to repair my old retro consoles. I was wondering what advice you would give to someone whose famicom is displaying a white screen (game is inserted but nothing is displayed). The cart slot feels "crunchy" when games are inserted and it makes a sound when you hit reset. Nothing else happens. I would like your opinion on the subject since I am at a loss on what part might be the problem. Thanks and looking forward to more videos!

are you using japanese native televisionS?? I was told...and it works for me too, that the channel needed to be 95 to show anything with RF, cause i thought mine was messed up, it's not just dirty and has a lot of static...so needs cleaning...already knew that haha. but was surprised that it was fully functioning. just had it on the wrong channel, but I am using NES rf adapter...so maybe that has something to do with it??

I didn't know that the American Super Mario Bros2 was also officially released for the 8-Bit Famicom (7:23). I thought it was released only for the 16-Bit Super Famicom. I have that game for the 8-Bit Famicom but mine is a bootleg and the cartridge label title is Super Wonderful Mario. I didn't know that original exist for the 8-Bit Famicom. I'm sure that yours is original because you are in Japan.
