@RndStranger the dramatic reading is definitely a highlight of the entire project XD. I've been following you for the last five months or so every single day. Keep up the good work mate and thank you for totally making my birthday!

Hahah, I've heard about that rant a long time ago, but never played the game (though it does look solid for what it is), so it sure is known for something in the West alright. :P More than 30 years later, and the industry hasn't changed much...

This game, along with King of Kings (the Famicom strategy game, not the unlicensed Wisdom Tree game) were the only two games to take advantage of the Namcot 163 mapper chip's capacity for eight channels of sound. It shares a rarified air with the likes of Akamajou Densetsu as one of the very few Famicom games with a high channel count, and to sound closer to a PC Engine or Mega Drive game. Hirohiko Takayama's composition here is fantastic, and I listen to the OST to this game just to enjoy his work.

I read that and I forgot to mention it. Namco was really pushing the boundaries of the Famicom until... Well, I explain that in episode 510.

I was just reading on NesDev that this is actually the reason for the high-pitched noise, as switching through more channels means the chip can't clock each channel as often. I couldn't hear it in the video, though, so you must have softened it enough!

Well, on a rewatch, I might have heard some sort of hissing?

this is one adventure game I really want to try out eventually and no it isn't because I want to witness that very colorful rant on real hardware

Update: Had lots of fun with this game! My only real complaint is that playing single player can be a pain since you have to do tons of backtracking but I'd imagine if you played this with a friend then it would be a very chill experience. Oh and I did take the time to wait almost 2 hours to witness that rant, although I was playing with an English patch so it was a bit more tame compared to tcrf's translation.

Well, at least the rant seemed like it was deserved, and it wasn't completely negative.

That rant is probably the funniest thing I'll read today! 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah obviously there's only one thing I really knew about this one, and that's covered at the end. the dramatic reading was the cherry on top of this review! hahaha. beyond that seems like an interesting twist on the adventure game given its forced co-op to some extent.
