But, but, but... Sturm's mustache! The MJ cologne waterfall! Seriously, the best thing about this game was the message board insanity on Gamefaqs back in the days. Someone even went through the trouble of writing a glowing review of the game that got deleted because it was deemed untrue.

"You can't have AD&D combat in a real-time game" The Infinity Engine games say otherwise :P

I'm no D&D fan (big surprise 😝) but this is one of the few RPGs which I'm comfortable in saying is just really bad. I recently played the Master System version, which was made by Tiertex and might actually be slighty less bad if only because it isn't as grotesque looking as this one. Finding out that Natsume made this is like finding out that the Follin brothers worked on the Batman Forever game.

Oh man, I completely forgot about that. I believe Tim Follin also did a lacklustre soundtrack for a GBC Puzzle Bobble game. I guess no-one is perfect

well I didn't know the difference between the gold box and silver box series. US GOLD? yeah that explains a lot. probably tried to play this as a ROM but yeah as I recall it was really rough.

Ughh... Heroes of the Lance. I discovered the novels at exactly the right phase of my childhood to become a huge fan, so when I saw this for rent I was psyched. Then I actually played it. I'm still glad I rented it though, there's a chance I might have bought it otherwise.

I'll say one thing: NES Pool of Radiance is an unsung 8-bit console RPG classic. I will die on this hill. Heroes of the Lance sucks, though. On PC or on the computer. Dragons of Flame or whatever the sequel is called is at least playable.

Oof, this one's rough. The next game is better though. I kinda like D&D (I'm more of a sci-fi person) and I read the series they initially wanted to adapt... even with the modern approach to game design it wouldn't be easy and would take a lot of time, those novels really are filled to the brim with various elements. Too bad the games in general weren't so good.

This game is an exercise in masochism, that's for sure. I'd rather play Hoshi wo Miru Hito 😮
@EriChanTheRetroGamerNerd Жыл бұрын
I think so too, Hoshi Wo Miru Hito at least kind of had some ambition as an RPG, and I kind of like the 10% of it that wasn't broken. Plus the dungeon maps probably make more sense.

@@EriChanTheRetroGamerNerd Hoshi wo Miru Hito had some flesh, but its bones were (and still are, before the monumental hacking job to do) kinda broken 🙂
@EriChanTheRetroGamerNerd Жыл бұрын
@@romannikonenko7325 That's a good way to put what I was thinking about it. If everything worked more or less properly, or at least it functioned as well as something like Final Fantasy which had a few broken spells and formulas, It'd be an on the level of "ambitious mess" and I'd have a lot of fondness for it. In that sense, it's probably my pick for Famicom game that falls shortest of its potential.

Hate this game. Love the books, love my English friend who has fond feelings for this title (who even sent me a C64 tape so maybe I could share them), but I hate this game.

Weird, this one didn't show up on my notification feed. Anyway, here I am to add engagement to your videos and help the algorithm: this game ain't no good.
