It good they made female characters look more... well female, and just get reminded of that Robot Chicken episode where Mickey and Donald at the bar with the joke "she looks like me, but in drag". but I think that near identical "twins" couple joke/gag, is more strange. and alot of old cartoons have that, heck Micky and Minnie is a good example for it.
@Banchoking9 жыл бұрын
+Bobby Nick I used to think that Mickey and Minnie were siblings.
@bobbynick53589 жыл бұрын
yeah see, right there. a lot of old cartoon couple's look like twins then a couple. I guess it post to be a gag of "they do things identically together they starting to look like each other" but... they look like twins not a couple, so you get females that are cookie cutter of the males but in pink and a bow on their head instead. it just funny
@Fairygirl-q6g4 жыл бұрын
Bobby Nick Well it depends. It’s not always a good thing. Sometimes it looks stupid. For example, the male animals look like animals on two legs, but females look humans with an animals head. I hate that. Also it depend on what the artist are going for. If they want their animals to look like animals on twos or cartoony then it should apply to both sexes. If the females are going to have female features and a female body shape, then it should apply to males, but masculine. In a show called Bluey (2018). All the dogs look like walking squares and circles. It would look ridiculous if only the males look like that, but females are more human looking. They have no human features (the males have a mustache without looking too human) because the creators don’t want them to look too human. They found other ways to make the bitches different from the dogs without sexualizing them or making them look like twins.
@Fairygirl-q6g4 жыл бұрын
Bobby Nick Well it’s no different with the males either. If the females have to look more female, then males have to look more male. None of that crap where the males look cartoony or normal animals on twos and females are way more humanized. It’s off putting. There are ways to make a character look like a girl without making her look like a twin or making them so different that the males look like normal animals. There is no reason for the female animals to have a human body while the male has an animal body. Either both have human like bodies or not. Also making them female in the face, not just eyelashes; a smaller muzzle. In other words, give them a feminine looking head and faces. Also being smaller in size/slimmer (unless their a spider or other animals where the girls are bigger) is good enough. Boobs, butt and curves aren’t the only thing that makes a character girly looking. After all if the male animals don’t have to look like men then why should the female animals have to look like women? Think of the otters from Zoopotia. It shows that they can look like females without looking sexy or looking like a twin. Also speaking of looking like twins, well the males look like the twins to their girls just as well? so why should it be only the girls that have to look like female humans? Isn’t the face and being slimmer/smaller in size just as good?🤷🏽
@Fairygirl-q6g4 жыл бұрын
Bobby Nick I get that people have to know that they’re girls, but there are other ways besides boobs or a bow. Making them sleeker and daintier is one of them. Also just the voice alone is good enough (for the deaf or for reading comics, well just read).

This is one of the first movies I really just watched repeatedly, and has been a favorite since I was about 5-6. It's a shame more people don't know about it. I even love the music, and I tend towards darker, heavier sounds. Still not a fan of 10cc, but Graham Gouldman is okay in my book. Great voice acting, excellent for the time animation, and memorable characters.

Would be nice to see Zootopia throw a few references to Animalympics somewhere in the film. Like, a quick blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot of a poster of Bolt Jenkins in "Crocky 5" or a news ticker talking about Tatyana Tushenko training a new generation of young gymnasts or a Dean Wilson biography on how he won his gold metals while on seaweed. Okay, that last one probably wouldn't happen but still. ^_^

I remember liking this as a kid, particularly the longer song sequences - although I swear I thought Fleetwood Mac's 'Everywhere' was the song playing during Kit and René' s first romantic montage...can anyone help clear that up, was that just on the European VHS release? It's a shame Fantasia 2 didn't turn out more like the animated montages from this film - it would have been amazing. Aside from that though, although I can understand someone wanting to offer another persepctive on a film they like, there's little point if it's going to be biased - and it must be said this was rather. Not pointing out that both the different male and female lions running in the 100m and the marathon had the exact same name, and that this was repeated throughout - although repeating character designs saves on time and money, nothing was done to try and make them appear different from each other, and it would have taken no time at all to at least come up with different names for them. If your curious, the reason the German slalom skiing dog ( wow, those are words I just typed ) left straight after winning the event was because when he was lost on the mountain during training, he became exaused and imagined some sort of 'Dog-grila' - like Shangrila. This distracted him until he remembered the competition, so he returned to take part but wanted to go back and find Dog-Grila again - if it was real...you even showed that song section when talking about the music. I really enjoyed this as a kid - and even at that age it was the music that I remembered long afterwards - and the awesome montages - but I'll admit it has its flaws. This review seems to have a bit of a - 'these guys don't like a movie I love as much as they should, so they're wrong!' vibe to it.

I enjoy the movie because it is kind of one of a kind. Besides being an animated sports movie with anthropomorphic animals as presented by an unorthodox narrative, it's sense of humor is very satirical. In fact, the humor feels like something from the early Warner Bros cartoons or something out of the Simpsons (appropriate given that Brad Bird worked on this).
