Family Affairs and the revived Crossroads are both prime examples of how you can't just expect something to work by changing it. Family Affairs had slowly evolved into a decent soap by 2002 / 2003, but every time it found its feet there would be another random, confusing revamp. The show was never allowed to settle down and ultimately every facelift just became another nail in the coffin. It's a shame because by 2003 it was easily one of the best soaps on TV.

We had good soaps back then, family affairs was another one.Today it all about Big Brother Rubbish or Hollywood Wives, you know the so called reality TV shows this is how far TV has deteriorated today.

Wasn't this the soap where they had a massive explosion & killed off most of the original cast so they could relaunch it with new characters ?? I know it was filmed in & around Hayes & Yeading cos the film studio was there..

It was decided that the original family in the show was "too white" after a couple of years, and they replaced them with more ethnic characters. The original family was blown up in a boat explosion.

It was nothing to do with race, ratings weren't great so they wrote out the main family to bring in new characters to boost ratings. Stupid decision that didn't really work in the end.

@@smokeylee1986 Definitely - that would have been better. Although what I liked about Family Affairs was that unlike every other soap, it focused on just one - albeit large - family. That's what made it unique at the beginning.

Thats not why, the ratings were ok, but they made the mistake of killing off the Harts which was a short term fix for a long term problem.

They were driving home both had a few drinks. He wasn't a murderer things just went horably wrong he lost controle of the car then crashed it by accident then moved her into the drivers stea with out thinking because he knew they count be anoid at elasa if she couldn't remember what happened. when she came home he wanted to keep her away from family and people so her memery wouldn't return because he was affriad off what would happen then he got more controleing but like know one suspected him when her memery did return. she asked him how could he the car crash the he went real crasey and trew stuff off mantel peace and started saying crasey shit like he asked her why she couldn't have given her the the life he always wanted the life with maria but I don't think he ment what he was saying he was just being crasey because he dug hiself into a terrible mess. He punched her and she fell an then he smotherd her but I think he regreated it bcause you could see him racked with anormass guilt.

It seems to allways about holly and susy the Heart eara ones. The fall with Jack and elsa was Brillant that was a good story line Jack was having an affair with Maria. Him and Elsa were so happyish she was starting to suspect his flandering they both sort of stayed toggeter prior to their difrent express of opinion at the start of episode when they were interduced. They were happytogetter until the end of epsode one when elsa started to suspect his affair. They had little change of opinion when duncin cmae in let me just catch it and then I will be right back

and the he saw then he took out the copey Nick did. I think the line was I would like to hit you all over the head where it realy hearts. that was terrible that the truth about whay him and elsa died was never reviled to any one outside the family bar dave pete nick he got away with it unfortunaly. everyone else in charnem thinks that elsa jsust past away from her ilnes due to the acednt they think she caused and that Jack died of because he didn't realise their was a gass leak. know ever found out the truth. Its good doe that the rest of charnem didn't find out because it shows that things arnt aways as they seem and that you don't know what goes on behind closed doors you only think you know but then it would be good if people had found out the truth and he handnt killed himself because he would have had to go to prison for killing elsa but sadly he got away with it. Poor Elsa and the poor family.

the weardest thing is he got away with it only the family found out the truth and peat callen whoo he left everything two. Their was ann incident off screen where he told maria he had killed elsa to be with her. after Annie the family found out they disownd jack I never saw the epasod where he were confronted then after he killed himself because he couldn't live with the guilt then I remember came over with a video and criss trew the video on the ground smashed it up with his shoe on his food he stamped on the vidio and I think Dave knew aswell he was their he went you you shouldn't have done that Chriss he could have a copey

Duncine goesCheers grampa. they were happy doe notice how Jack and elsa opions differing didn't get them fighting. They were happy and getting on like a house on fire untile she spotted him and Maria chatting then she began to suspect the affair you could see it was written on her face. they split then hey got back to getter they were going to divorve untile she took him back and he moved back in then she forgave him and like they recociled then they were just as happy as thy were befor the affair was started. they put it be hind them they were happy untile the awards night.

second thougts they should have used the affair with Dave Matthews to open the show a bit more if the affair been exposed it would have centred around the Mathews and the hearts then just opened up around the comunaty gradually. mabey they could have holly and annie leave. Mellani and roy should have been axed just that they should have move away to get their own place and the just ax the hearts slowly and put in new chararecters. instead the just flung them all out like that in fire and just trew in loads of new people if they had done it my it it would be still roleing today. axing all the hearts was a great idea but it shoud have done slowly so people could get use to the changes in the show. you kill of the mian family off in one go you kill off the show. Jack and and elsa was disturbing they way he had big persaonalty trancplant since the car crash but atleast effort was put into it.

Two Switches I actually liked the Harts and this era of Family Affairs more. What I thought was ridiculous though was not just the way they killed everyone off in one go, but that one day Charnham was in Berkshire, and the next day it was somewhere in London! Ridiculous.
