My best family pics are the ones I take before everyone is “ready”. Tell them you’re checking focus and exposure and start shooting. Then get them to pose and take a few more. Then keep shooting when they’re “done”. The keepers everyone loves are all the “before” and “after” shots! Love your videos Omar! I’ve been shooting for almost 40 years, and I’ve learned a lot from you, thanks so much.

I took family formal Portraits with a beautiful Nigerian family of 4! 3 wardrobe changes! With your photos you shared, it helped me make the most of it with different poses! Helpful stuff! I noticed your photos here have a fair amount of depth of field. I like the look! So many sites make an immutable rule to "make the background CREAMY!" even if you have to buy a $2000 lens to do it! I like photos with more depth. Plus it makes it easier to accommodate groups where not everyone is on the same plane!

I find I grab cameras from strangers, with their permission, to take a family photo for them so it looks like dad was on vacation too. A never fail for me in these spontaneous shoots is to tell them to “pretend you like each other “. Gives you about 10 seconds of natural pose, all you need for a courtesy shot.
