So clever... it never ceases to amaze me the different configurations people can come up with that work nicely for their own needs.

God, I love these van-life videos. I myself plan on going down the van-life road once I'm able to. (aka, once I have a licence, a job, am out of high-school, and have enough money saved up to buy the van at least)
@JML-lv2rb4 жыл бұрын
If you want to try something more accessible 1st consider completing a "micro camper build"...it's a WAY more affordable way to practice the skills you'll need to complete a nice van conversion someday, and get a taste of the "tiny" lifestyle. I spent last summer building a teardrop style camper from scratch, I built the trailer, then built the camper on top of that. I loaded mine up with features, AC and DC electricity, running water, propane hot outdoor shower, complete galley kitchen, aluminum siding, etc. and still spent less than 3,000$ total...I've seen a lot of people do nice ones, with slightly less features for less ($1,000-2,000$). If you do a nice enough job you can sell it when you're finished and use the profits to put towards a van. Look into it, after completing mine, I have this very cool mini-home for camping and feel as though I could do a nice job on a van now having had a chance to try metalworking, woodworking, electrical, and plumbing.

You appear to be in high school. So cash is an issue. Do you have a bicycle? Do you have the determination to buy/make a cycle trailer that opens up to allow you to camp in it? Small solar panel on top allows you to charge your phone and have light. Tiny bedroom fridge run on solar keeps milk fresh. Pop up tent or teardrop the design is all yours contained in 1m x 2m max. One square metre closed up for ease of pulling? Do two with a friend to have joint adventures. The simpler it is the less can go wrong. Great start for skills building as Joshua said.

Awesome build. Looks really homely :) - one suggestion (I’ve never built a camper but I intend to one day) have you thought about anti slam hinges that you get on cupboards for the bed folding mechanism. Just to make it easier on your back when lowering it/ less chance of it slamming down.
@hfortenberry5 жыл бұрын
I know lately on these videos everyone keeps saying "homely" but that is the wrong word. Homely actually means "ugly" or "plain" (plain not in a good way). The correct word is actually "homey".

Exactly. Much work and moving things around daily.
@anywherebuthere915 жыл бұрын
@@gloria84073 I think this is more what I would like rather than the permanent bed ones. Folding the beds up and putting them away means you can transform your living space into another kind of room for the day, essentially. Personally when I lived in a studio I liked to fold my bed up so it didn't feel like I lived in a bedroom.
@jaytarheel2664 жыл бұрын
Yeah I thought the same thing. It's too much work daily to move around. I was thinking maybe you can just sleep on the sofa but it's a bit small... So if you want a bed you need to convert it, then you can't just leave it out because it blocks the door, so it has to be put away. Good design but too much work
@jaytarheel2664 жыл бұрын
@Susie X I'm just stating my opinion.. no need to get offended. Maybe you can tolerate more prep than I do.. But I don't want to have to do all that before I have to sleep. It's not practical for anyone who is tired O_O

I have seen a lot of van conversions this one is by far the best one I've seen so far
@jenniferhill87764 жыл бұрын
Wow if the van were longer I'd just add a shower in the back area. One could fit current somewhere where the 2 counterspace is, but I like how spacious it looks currently Or, a regular walled shower could fit in the area where the toilet is (shower space would be bigger though). The only compromise I see with this build is storage space. perhaps a different style bed (with understorage) & upper cabinets that go down further may help remedy this, somewhat.
@JosephPuplava5 жыл бұрын
Smart bed design that I have ever seen in a van. Thumb up!
@winandd86495 жыл бұрын
I think not, why not a 'slide out' bed, so the cushions don't have to be removed? With a slide out bed, you can also make it so that it hinges up like a lid to access the storage space underneath. like this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6PUdHeFi7WeaZYm41s

Hmmm, I wonder which is better, to have the velcro straps joining the cushions on the top, side or bottom of the cushions or to just use the joining belts that hotels use to join twin beds into king-sized beds... Of course, the big decision is whether or not to have storage space (a garage) or have the space convertible between living and sleeping space. I guess that's also predicated by how much you're willing to strap on the roof, underneath or on the rear doors. For example, one concern might be the storage of winter tires and conversely of summer tires if you're unwilling to pay for storage and do not have a permanent residence for storage. Do you want to strap them underneath, hung on the back doors or do you want to try and haul them onto the roof for storage perhaps with ropes and pulleys and a crane that could be collapsed. Note the offseason tires can serve as spares so there would be no need of storing a spare.
