Our first tree, 49 years ago, was a used 4 foot tree. Some new and some repurposed ornaments. So proud. We had few couples over after church and came home to a fallen tree and broken ornaments everywhere. The ladies helped this newly wed tidy up and still have a fun eve. I learned to steady the tree after that! Love this family video. You are all so talented and fun to watch!

On our first Christmas, we used a gifted tree. My parents had bought a new artificial tree and gave us their old one. My husband spent quite a bit of time reattaching the broken branches. We were both working and with over time , we hadn't much of a chance to buy presents let alone decorations. We spent that Christmas Eve making origami birds out of wrapping paper. I'll never forget it. Our topper was a bird's nest we had found one Sunday afternoon while walking in the park. We created a large paper bird to sit in the nest. In the end, with clear lights and red bows added, the tree turned out lovely in 1978. Over the years, we have collected hundreds of ornaments, none of which are paper, although we still have some of those birds hanging around in a box somewhere. Thanks for the memories & Merry Christmas!

Just beautiful, the family and the tree of course. My first Christmas tree in 1981,I told you I was ancient, was bought at a "discount "shop here in the UK three days before Christmas. We were working and I rushed out to buy food and the tree was on "sale"so I had enough for the food and the tree(all £3.25p).Only problem was strapping it to my bicycle, which I had to walk back to work, then after work I had to walk home pushing the bicycle.Of course it decided to rain! We had no money and no baubles, but we had a tree.Hubby ,a little more inventively, cut shapes from newspapers, which our neighbour had given us.Such fun!NOT!It sucked a lot,but the tree stuck with us through four Christmases, being dragged in and out of attics with cheap ornaments being added each year.I never thought I could ever afford anything better. But it so reminded us of the huge sacrifice Jesus Christ had done for us sinners, born in abject poverty in Bethlehem and to issue a message of peace and Godly love. Thanks Rebecca for the walk down memory lane for this old bird!

The day we decorated our first tree as a married couple I had crochet'd little Christmas stockings that were white with red and green edges. That was the decoration. My husband spent every minute with me and I will never forget it.

My husband and I have been married 49 years. We were so poor in the beginning we really couldn't afford a tree so we cut a little tree from family property. The tree was put into a container of some sort to hold it . We had hand made bows and a handful of hand me down decorations. I loved it dorky as it was. Marie

I had a silver tree that my aunt sold me real cheap and it had the a electric rotation that shines on the tree and it changed from red to green to gold and would continue to rotate back around.again. I don’t think we had any ornaments. We had this a few years until we could buy a tree. I was so excited when I finally got a green tree. We didn’t have extra money for trees those first couple of years. I read your response and needed to share. Pat in NC

I loved meeting Jimmy, Emily and their 4 lovely children!!! One Christmas I remember is with our daughter, who was a toddler at the time, because our tree spun...the entire thing!!! My daughter loved that tree and how it told a "story" as it spun!!! I have always loved Christmas... owe that to my mom, decorating for Christmas, listening to Christmas music, cooking for Christmas, making cookies for Christmas....just Christmas Central!!! That being said, I already had a nice collection of ornaments (which has grown with every year) and did the "pinch" for my bows tucking them in and out and placing the floral wire to save all my glass ornaments tucked in deep... great minds think alike!!! The marriage did not last but the memory of that Christmas lives on in my heart!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

My first Christmas tree out of Mama's house was very skimpy. We bought multi-colored glass balls for the tree. Now, since 1982, there are few left. Enough left, though, to put them in a lovely clear cylindrical vase to display tough times Christmas balls. It reminds me of how the Lord doesn't always give us what we want, but he gives us what we need.

Our first Christmas together was spent at a friend's cabin in the mountains of Idaho. We had packed so much to bring with us for the week (Our car was packed like yours- to the brim) however, even though we had brought gifts for each other, I didn't even think about needing Christmas decorations. I was so sad without a tree. We ended up cutting down Sagebrush and putting it in a huge wood coal bucket that was there. We gathered long thin bare branches, pinecones, evergreen branches, and used odd things we found around the cabin; matching table runners, wooden spoons, old work boots, mittens, etc. and decorated that "tree" all up. I'll never forget that first cozy, mountain Christmas.

I loved every moment of this!! It's a blessing to see everyone working together, and learning from each other. Emili's comment about their first Christmas had me in tears. Cutting out hearts for a Christmas tree is pretty non-traditional! For the two of them, it sounds like it was all about love. Love for each other, and love for baby Jesus. I have to admire that....... They kept "the main thing", the main thing!! The four mini Robesons are beyond precious, and I pray for ENDURANCE for Jimmy and Emili!! Holy Christmas!! That would be more than I could handle-God bless them!! It's all completely beautiful, and I'm sending love and hugs to all!! XXOO

Our first Christmas a married couple was in 1990. We had a tiny one bedroom apartment. We bought our first tree at Frank's Nursery and crafts and we bought a bunch of DIY ornaments from the craft sections - like the ones you use sequins and beads to decorate, little candy canes made out of beads, and little stained glass ornaments where you melt the plastic bits into metal frames in the oven. We cranked up some Metallica and got to decorating and we had a great time lol. And yes - I still have those ornaments, almost 30 years later, and they still go on my tree

Our first Christmas we lived in Germany and couldn't really speak nor read German. But we wandered into a store and bought an artificial Christmas tree. Got it loaded and took it to our little place. We quickly realized that we had purchased a 12 ft tree and had maybe 8 ft ceiling. So we took out one portion of the tree and then added the top section to that, well that somehow threw off the balance of the tree and the Christmas tree had a heavy lean . We decided we'd bungie cord the tree to a banister behind the tree and proceeded to decorate it. It was great!! Needless to say my Mom inherited that tree and she still has 23 years later ,and it looks beautiful..all 12 feet of it. :D Thanks for all the wonderful Christmas decorating videos,I look forward to them every year!!

Decorate in two hours! I loved that because it's totally me. When I saw Day 2, I was like 👀 But this was so beautiful and I appreciated the comments from Jimmy's wife. I could see myself incorporating these tips as I really only have energy for the tree, over like a tablescape. 25 years of marriage and my tree still has a special spot where our first year ornaments go. 😍 PS the music was fabulous. Thank you!

Robeson Design ...thank you! I grabbed the music right after I watched the video. Yes, I absolutely learned so much! Extra lights, tucking balls into the branches, and the bow/ribbon! I wouldn't have thought to put it a little lower and tucking the ribbon in makes so much sense, over letting it flop down the tree. It turned out pretty, personal, homey, but still has that upscale designer flare without being snooty. 🤗

This tree is beautiful. I have to admit some of the most beautiful trees are those Walmart trees that you just decorate the best you can. I was fortunate to go on a "Christmas Walk". There were so many different Christmas Trees. I recall the one that was the sweetest was a tree that the kids made popcorn and cranberry strings and construction paper garland and little handmade ornaments. It was lovely.

This is my favorite video of yours to date. (I've loved them all but this was the best!) When I was first married we couldn't afford a tree so we cut the bottom branch off of the large pine tree in our front yard and leaned it up against the wall. We put on some lights and red ornaments and it served us just fine. It's a story I like to tell my grown kids to let them know that things may not be perfect but still work out. The year of the Christmas branch.

Oh I love this video! A total family affair! Not only does it look stylish and sophisticated but it's totally personal to Jimmy, Emily and the kids with all the little bits they have collected through the years. The style of tree, choice of ribbons and balls really do compliment the quirky ornaments they have and the stuff the kids want on the tree. What a special gift to be able to have your grandma come and help put up a wonderful tree to make your Christmas more magical. Good bless you Rebecca! Thank you for this.... Thanks to Jimmy also for his lovely music! SF (Vickie) x

Forgot to add that our first Christmas together was when we were living together and not married. My now mother in law purchased as a tree and some ornaments and then took us out to pick up a few more bits. Our flat was tiny and the tree was cheap and cheerful as were the decorations but we had them co ordinated in red and gold. It was my first year away from home too so it was a little bit special, we ended up driving over 300 miles to my parents for Christmas and had the traditional Christmas tree I'd grown up with on Christmas Day. X

Being newly wed and broke my husband and I made most of the ornaments in the kitchen. Gingerbread men and women along with candy canes, orange peels candied and hung with cranberries and fans out of that twisted paper. Pomanders with cloves and cinnamon. White pinecone painted and glittered with little red and white bows. Oh the smells were awesome. I'm so looking forward to a grand birthday celebration this year too. Have a blessed Christmas. Joy unspeakable!

I loved seeing this branch of your family!!! So much fun! My first Christmas with my husband was spent in our little off campus apartment in our college town. We had a real tree, because he refused to do fake trees, and multicolored lights. We decorated with our childhood ornaments and then had our new friends at college come over and do paper snowflakes for the rest of it. Now I only use white lights because it pops better with alllllll the ornaments we've collected over 13 years and with 6 kids!!

My 1st Christmas with my hubby, we had a 4ft white tree that we put on a card table, covered with a light & dark blue table cloth with snowflakes on it, I think I got it on clearance at Walmart for like $10. The tree had light & dark blue ornaments & snowflakes all over it & our topper, I made, an angel with a blue & white dress & tiny snowflakes on it, I was so proud of myself lol. Wow-32 years ago, since then there have been 3 kids (all grown now) & many changes to our trees through the years! Merry Christmas & God bless everyone :)

Lovely, warm design for a sweet family. I always love watching your videos. I remember as a little girl, our CHristmas tree was made from a small tree branch, we glued cotton balls around each branch and when it was finished, it looked straight out of a yard full of snow. It was one of the loveliest Christmases I had some 45 yrs ago :) :)

@Jay Jops Sounds dreamy. No matter how hard I try to muster up some snow for Christmas... San Diego just never complies! Have a wonderful holiday season Jay. RR

Such a cute family. For our first tree. We shopped late and bought pretty much the last raggedy tree on the fresh cut tree lot. As you would expect it had naked spots and and was hardly straight. Since we had now spent all our money on our tree we needed to get really inventive with the decorations. We strung the packing popcorn, some of which we glittered until our fingers stuck together. From the tree lot we gather the metal wire that they used to hold the branches during shipping and a ton of brown twine. Using pliers we made twirly metal icicles. And with the twine we wet the strings with glue and wrapped them around some small party balloons after which we popped and created some natural looking balls. It was perfect!

My first Christmas was all about family and being with the man I loved. We were of humble means back then, so we bought a spruce from the grocery store and some plastic big box ornaments and a tree skirt. That tree was our present to each other and that year I bought our "first christmas" couple ornament, which has two bears sitting in the tunnel of love kissing. It is my most treasured ornament to this day. Although we both can afford pretty elaborate gifts now, it's those humble times I love the most.

lol 😂 Home Depot with 4 kids. Rebecca’s daughter in law is very down to earth and sweet. I’ve seen a large portrait of her in my friends salon. The tree turned out so beautiful! Encouraging that Jimmy said to learn as you go through diy vids. These people are so humble! Looks like a lovely family.

My fiancé and I moved in together just before last Christmas. We were still unpacking (the few things worth bringing to our new place) and definitely did not have a tree stand, but we had a few ornaments. We ended up getting a small tree and propping it up in a soup pot!

Awww, this is such a sweet video. Love seeing RR w/family. Our 1st Christmas was in a 3 room upstairs apartment. The rooms were small, freezing cold outside (but toasty inside) a very lumpy old mattress, and fabulous tiny tree...but we were SO happy...I would not have changed a thing. (side note: the music is amazing) Happy Holidays. Peace friend.

Married 25 years ago. Our first Christmas tree was decorated with a few ornaments from my Mother in law and several satin covered ornaments. To fill in the empty spaces I purchased several spools of Christmas print ribbon which was hand tied into bows and attached to the tree. Every year we would add a few ornaments to replace some of the bows. One tradition we have with our children is that every Christmas Eve they each receive an ornament from me. This is the start of their Christmas decorations and will go with them when they have their own trees.

Wow! That's a beautiful tree! 🎄 We didn't have much our first Christmas in our tiny apartment... I made a construction paper chain for garland... and a lot of the decorations were hand made too. The tree topper was an angel I made with a toilet paper tube and papers. SF.

The tree turned out beautiful for your family. I still remember my husbands and my first christmas in our own house. The tree was decorated with gold and dark blue. After a few years we have changed it to red, white and silver because we needed plastic ornaments when our son was younger. He took them of and threw them around our livingroom. We builded around these plastic ornaments over the last years, and now we have a mixture of plastic and glass ornaments ofcourse..... the kids are 14 and 17 so that is no problem anymore. lol. Love all of your videos! Greetings from the Netherlands.

I'm watching a year old video and enjoying every minute. Loved the Christmas song, great talent. I'm a self taught interior decorator and must say that I'm glad I found your channel. You have refined my talents while entertaining me with your wit. You have the perfect balance to relate with your audience with professionalism, yet letting it be real. It doesn't appear to be a show with only your crew, but you make us all feel like we're part of it by looking into the camera and talking to us! Of course, your sense of fashion and beautiful face just enhances the enjoyment. Thank you for each video gift. L.S.

Last year was our first Christmas as newly weds but my husband was deployed. I have a very nice 6ft, skinny tree which used to be a display tree at the store I used to work at. When it was on the discard list, I got to take it home! So, it was just being me and our puppy for Christmas in a new state and our new apartment. I made a care package with 25 cards and gifts for my husband to open for each day of December leading up to Christmas. When the Roberson’s started their Christmas special last year, I put my tree up about a week before Thanksgiving. My mother in law came for Thanksgiving and we spent the weekend just us two. A few weeks later my mom flew in and once finals at college were done, we packed up my car and drove about 14 hours from Texas to Arizona. I was so blessed to spend the holidays with my family. My husband was supposed be home from deployment in mid January, so I left all the decorations and presents up and waiting for him. Then, my husband volunteered to stay back 2 weeks to train the new guys coming in. He came home February 2nd of this year and we had “Christmas” either that day or the next. I was ready to take down the tree, that’s for sure! We’ve been together for 3 years but this year will be the first year we have Christmas together. This year, we plan on decorating on Thanksgiving, and we will be spending Christmas and New Year’s with his family! This will be the first year in my whole life I won’t be spending it back in Arizona with my family.
