You will never know how much it meant to me to see you guys decorating the tree together as a family. It brought back so many wonderful memories years of my children and how special I always tried to make it for my family. I remember popping corn to string with cranberries, candy canes and each year a different theme for them as they grew older. I lost my oldest child Christopher May 23, of this year he was 49 from AML cancer. There are many of us that have grown old ( I am 70 yrs old) and our children doesn't visit at Thanksgiving or Christmas anymore, sometimes not even a phone call. It is heartbreaking, but we are very thankful we have each other. My husband and I have a beautiful Tree and we make a lovely Christmas Dinner together building Christmas Memories. Sending Love and Blessings to you and your wonderful family. ❤

Sara……ask someone to cut you a pine branch. Put it in a vase or some container and find small things to decorate it…..Popcorn strings, paper chains. Just because you can’t decorate a large tree any longer doesn’t mean you can’t have joy & Christmas spirit in something that is manageable for you!! ❤️ 🎄 Merry Christmas!!
@sarasullivan48972 жыл бұрын
@@raspeight22 thank you! I do have some treasured decorations sitting around and have shared many tree items that have gone to family. In a few days, I’ll pick up a green living plant to decorate and probably a poinsettia. It was just that the tree just seemed to make me sad even though I love the memories. I have a leprechaun snowman that was given to me by a secret Santa at work about 25 years ago. He’s pre ious, and sitting like he does every year.

My wife and I were talking the other day about Christmas when we were kids. we both grew up in families that didn't have a lot of money so our trees were always cedar trees because they're plentiful here in east Tennessee and will grow in rocks, fence rows, or just about anywhere. Now we go up to Boone, NC and get a fresh cut tree at one of the farms and spend way too much money on something that will end up in the lake as a fish attractor. I told her my grandpa would roll over in his grave if he knew what we spent for a tree every year but we both enjoy it and God has blessed us so it's one of those things we splurge on. I told her next year we should go cut a cedar tree and she said no way, they cut one when she was a kid that was full of bagworms LOL! we both had a good laugh. I told her we'd only need lights if it had bagworms, they look like little ornaments. Thanks for your videos, I really enjoy them. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

When I was but a wee lad, Mom bought our pre-cut Christmas tree off a lot in Westminster, Md., where we lived, about 2 weeks before Christmas. She trimmed it with two strings of lights, having about, all told, 30 of the old style thumb-sized bulbs which were all backed with shiny metal reflectors so it looked like the tree was full of light. She had about three boxes of Shiny Bright glass balls, with the price tags still on the boxes, I'm sure she had bought the first Christmas with Daddy. Finally, she draped heavy lead foil tinsel from every branch. A simple, frugal Christmas tree, but a vision of Christmas that dazzled before my eyes. She always took the tree down on New Year's Day, even saving every strand of the tinsel for our next tree.

Thx so much for sharing some of your traditions in your family😊🎄We created traditions with our sons. Each year we would make some homemade ornaments. When they were very little ornaments were wood cutouts of appropriate shapes for Christmas and we colored them with pencils and markers. As they got older, it was glass ornaments that we decorated on the inside and outside using glitter and paints. As time went we just continued making homemade ornaments to add to some of the store-bought ones that we loved. And each year we would string popcorn to remind us of what my Meme would do when I was a child. She would walk us to the back of her farm land Into the Woods and we would search for what would be our Christmas tree and then we would cut it down and carry it back to her Log Cabin. After we decorated it well enough, she would cook popcorn in the fireplace and we would drink hot tea and eat some of her pickled peaches over ice cream. She would make a different batch of popcorn just for us to string for her tree. It was so cold outside and she refused to have a bathroom built on to her house. As a Native American she wanted all of us to grow up strong and not pampered. So even though this would have been in the 1970s and even up into the 1980s we were still running to the outhouse LOL screaming all the way and laughing because we couldn't believe how cold it was.. all this was to say... bringing your kids up with special Traditions every year is leaving them a legacy that they can pass on to their children. Right down to me baking cookies for Santa and leaving him a glass of milk sitting on a table. There were even some years that the boys woke up to see reindeer prints on the floor in the charcoal dust from the fireplace😊❤️ I taught them that Christmas was all about us celebrating the birth of Christ Our Savior. I managed to let them enjoy The Wonder of Santa while all the while knowing that that was separate from our celebration of Our Lord🙏❤️

Seeing how much fun y'all had decorating the tree together reminded me of years ago when my two children helped me decorate. I'd set up the tree and the lights, then we'd do various kinds of garland, then the kids would take turns putting an ornament on the tree until they either got tired or the tree was finished. My husband had some very old and delicate ornaments that his parents and grandmother had used when he was a little boy. I'm so glad to know that there are still some families that hold to those traditions of everybody taking part in decorating the tree and preparing for the holiday. Christmas blessings to all of y'all. Be safe, be well and Merry Christmas to each and every one of y'all.
