I remember a DVD extra showed how they did most scenes that switched up characters for modern Family guy. Old it was all done with animators and outsourcing, the production times were all very rushed and you can spot mistakes. After awhile they just sort of made rigs of the characters on a program, so they get the same quality every time with minimum animation for new actions. That's why you see some characters fall the same way or share facial expressions that don't seem to change. It helps them churn out quicker episodes with less of the labor, but it doesn't have that old-school charm the original family guy had. Kind of like a Flash animation, if you ever had learned how to make those. You make a character and can move it around for several frames. But imagine that, more advanced and you have every character on Family Guy to use. You can select props, expressions, etc and animate your own stuff to get a full episode.

They did a damn good job replicating the old animation, some stuff was a bit off though, when Megatron complains about her lips in the old one there were 2 extra items in the background and 1 in the foreground, a bottle of maybe tequila or bourbon considering there are alcoholics in the house and a sink, in there foreground there was a flower, but the new animation when Brian and Stewie peep on the conversation, the bottle, the sink and the flower were gone, but it's still so cool to see that they still can replicate their old animation and can revert to it if they don't have enough money to pay their animators or if they ever wanna do another scene like this when they decide to go back in time again or into another universe where they didn't update their animation and kept the old one throughout the show

It really isn't. Almost every fram of animation is almost identical to the one before it. Being able to draw characters with consistency is one of the key skills required for animation. Or at least it was before computers did 99% of the hard work. Its pretty likely that Family guy had to wait until digital animation was cheap enough to replicate this so well but with a dedicated team it could have been done by hand using traditional techniques by any decent animators.
