Hey Dylan, I Love this build!!! There is a 1979 Dodge Club Cab Long Bed Truck that My Brother and I grew up with that means a lot to us. It was our Dad's truck and was last on the road around 2003 or 2004. My brother learned to drive in this truck and drove it around our woods, yard and up and down our road when I was away most of the time at college for a year. This truck is currently at my brothers house. We hope to get it running and driving again soon. This video will no doubt inspire us to get busy with the truck that we grew up with.

In high school (early 90s) my best friend had a 75 D100 4x4 360 (swapped on 4 barrel carb), he later picked up a 78 ext cab 4x4 with 318. Had so much fun with them.

Oh man! I'm stoked beyond belief that you are doing this! I've been so curious about that truck since I first saw it in the field in a video. I had a '74 Power Wagon that I really miss, so glad you're doing this! The parts with your Dad telling the history of the truck and your family really makes this such a special video, I loved hearing the way he says certain things about getting in the carb, just hearing him talk like a Tennessee man like me is awesome to me! Can't wait for the next video, family first, trucks and cars a close second. ❤😊

That’s a great project. I grew up with a 1981 GMC C2500 heavy duty originally ordered by PG&E. They abandoned it when it arrived at the dealership. My dad bought it for his construction business. We used that truck for everything. Tow the boat to the lake, haul cars around. Move a couple of times. I wish he would’ve kept it. I would’ve bought it from him unquestionably. 292, SM 465, 14 bolt full floater. That’s so cool that you get to build that neat old Dodge back up.

So love this story. I know my old classic autos hold the same kind of sentiment for my oldest daughter. She used to love riding in the old Nova or '72 F250 when I'd get them out to drive. Still have them and don't plan to release them. I can't tell you how many times I've heard stories where people said they remember riding with dad in the old car and miss it. One person even asked if I'd sell the Nova because their dad had one like it and wished for one. I always say no because we have our own memories with these vehicles.

Dylan the drivetrain on the old truck is something special so DON’T get rid of the old differentials and transfer case. Those are heavy duty parts and just a little bit rare. Take the frame, engine, and tranny from the ‘92 and keep everything else from the’75. If you want taller gears then put in some new gears. Yes the ‘75 has sentimental value but I don’t think you realize just how rare that truck really is.

The club cabs in the mid 70's had very few made. I think less than 700 w100 short beds, and about 1000 long beds and less than 2500 w200's but I forget the exact numbers. From "The Standard Guide to American Trucks"

Have been binge-watching your Dodge Challenger rescue from a few years ago. Fantastic work! Most of the vehicles I looked thru had missing engine/tranny and rusted thru floorboards. Not much left to rescue. I almost went for a 1966 Pontiac Tempest but the guy wanted 5000 for it and would not budge! I love the old Chargers, Roadrunners, 442, GTX. Original Hemi blocks alone are a fortune. Wish I could post a photo here.

Dylan, you need to think of it in this manner: all of the memories are inside the cab. Rocker panels, floor pans, and cab corners will not take away those memories. A replacement bed, doors, and fenders won't kill the memories, but they will help continue to save the past memories and build new memories as well because it will make the truck last longer. Your dad and uncle would be proud to see it like new. The "patina" doesn't make memories either. This family heirloom is a worth a set if fenders, doors, bed, cab corners, rocker panels and floor pans. This is above "patina."

Good morning from Cape Cod ⛵ here in New England there are no classic Dodge trucks on the road because of the salt. They just write beyond belief. I'm a GM guy from day one but once in awhile you can't pass up a good deal. In some ways around 97 a gas station but had been in business forever closed and everything was for sale. There was a 74 Dodge adventurer that sat on the side of that garage since I was a kid, for sale on the windshield. Very little rust because it wasn't on the road for many years. 180 bucks which was what I had in my pocket and the guy took it. It had a 383 and a 4-speed on the floor with a Dana rear end. Of course I had to replace all the wiring because it was brittle as hell. All said and done I liked the truck. It was good hearing your father tell the history and it's great seeing that you're going to get it back on the road and running once again. Thank you for another awesome video Dylan ✌️🇺🇲

I very clearly remember the snowstorm your father is talking about. It was 92. It hit Kentucky hard as well, we had 5 foot deep of snow everywhere and we had drifts well over 7 to 8 foot. It was something to behold I learned that year a heavy truck. It's bad about packing the snow. And rising up on top of it. Then your bottomEd out However, our little light weight 4x4 s10 wouldGo, we'd have to stop back and bust through but it kept going.

My step dad bought a 96 dodge 1500 in 01 or 02. That truck was a beast. It hauled a 60ft single wide up a holler in about 10 inches of snow like it was nothin. I had so many memories in that truck. It later became mine times got hard and I had to sell it. I've only had 2 vehicles I've owned that I got emotional when I had to sell them and that was one of them. I guess what I'm getting at is I was never a dodge fan until my step dad bought that 1500 and seen what an ol dodge can do

Just an idea for you from someone else with a large cab pickup from the 70’s/80’s. They really like to rust from the top down for some reason, my crew cab GMC has a little rust starting above one of the door jams that I’ll have to fix one day, but no one likes dealing with roof rust. Anyway, my point is it looks like the blue truck has a pretty perfect roof for patch panels so you may want to keep that it mind while you’re going over yours. Can’t wait to see the finished product 🤘🏻

LOVE IT. My first vehicle was a 78 Dodge Club Cab long bed. It was a half ton 2wd with a four barrel 360/auto and a "posi". Dunno if it was stock or not, we bought it from a dirt track racing friend for $150 back in 1998. Unfortunately we had to sell it to rebuild the rear end in Mom's 1976 Chevy C30 crew cab. I miss that old Dodge but I have the worst luck with Dodge anyway. So I stick to Ford and GM these days. Absolutely love your Club Cabs tho. Makes me very nostalgic.

this old dodge reminds me of my first Dodge...I think it was a 77 or a 78...but it had a 400 2bbl, was shortbox and club cab...and 2wd...previous owners had slathered about 4 lbs of glitter into a clear coat over the original black base... the sun roof leaked...Dad had put a stock sounding muffler on it...but it was mine when I got my license... I burnt the tires off of it in no time lol...helped too that I slashed out the stock muffler and put in a glasspack... you never forget your first Dodge am I right?

The club cabs were not “rare” when I grew up in north Florida there were quite a few my dad and grandad had em. Please don’t go down the Cummins rabbit hole it’s been beat to death. Put it back like it came from Chrysler but with a factory big block setup.
