Ah, yes, well said, Frank. "The only thing harder than being a cop, is being married to one". The issue of how the family serves, whether the parent is a cop, a fireman, an EMT or a service member, trying to survive the worry that their loved one may not come home one night is harder than serving the community, and they should get a medal for the years that it takes off their lives, and the PTSD that both their spouse and they end up suffering b/c of the stress and the dark side of human nature that they see all the time. When I was young, a cop who was a friend and service buddy of my Dad's was killed when his motorcycle hit an open manhole cover at night and threw him into the air and he broke his neck when he landed. He had survived 4 years of combat engineer service in Europe with my Dad, had survived the onslaught of Hitler's panzer columns during the Bulge, only to be killed in his home town because some juvenile delinquent removed the manhole cover to play a trick on a humble motorist. The City welded all covers closed after that, and no more injuries occurred, but one family suffered greatly because of the evil done by a jerk.
