If they maybe didn’t panic and just relaxed and allowed the water to just push them out, they could have possibly have been a rescue but that type of patience and knowledge takes swim skills. Knowing how to float is what can save your life, never fight the current, just stay afloat and hope for rescue.

OMG!! The same thing happened to two brothers from Maryland two years ago, while vacationing in Puerto Rico. They were on the beach with friends and carried out by riptides. Their bodies later washed up on the beach. My sincere condolences to the grieving family and friends of these two beautiful girls.

How heartbreaking he lost two beautiful girls. Two boys were killed the same waters a few miles away. There is a strong rip current in the Rockaways and Coney Island. Every year people drown. I would not go more than waist deep in those waters. Please be safe.

The 2 boys who drowned a few weeks ago were only in knee deep water and the rip currents took them. Water is so powerful. Even water that's not up to your knees can knock you down and sweep you away depending on how fast it's going. If there are rip current warnings and especially no lifeguards out, it's not worth the risk

Many god have mercy on their souls…..I spent my entire childhood and teenage years free diving with my dad in the Mediterranean, and my dad was an ex French combat navy diver and navy officer ! I also did competitive swimming for 14 years. After all those years, I developed a lot of respect and borderline fear for the water after me and h8m were caught off guard by very strong currents barely a mile off the coast. We were very well trained, very well fit, tons of experience in the water and were equipped with 9 mm diving suits ( no way you can sink with that provided you drop your weight belt), oversized fins..The whole nine yards. Yet it took us almost and hour and half to get back to our anchored boat. Never experienced that before …..incredible.

Before the life guards had left they should have ensured that everyone had truly left the beach which they clearly did not
