No way that should have happened. They didn’t follow any safety precautions. No harness, disregard of weather conditions and who knows what else. His company,Turner Construction and U of Chicago have a big problem on their hands. Condolences

@@chico7469 Even if they did have fall protection. There’s no way with predicted wind gusts over 30 mph they should have been up there. I worked in the wind yesterday. We only went up 2 stories in a basket. The iron workers working in the same job were up 5 stories. They were told to shut it down for the day. The higher you go the more exposure you have. Yesterday’s accident was preventable. Multiple people dropped the ball.

@@wedabrutes9048 No accountability, participation trophy era, if you know better than not to work in those conditions, that means you held yourself accountable first? Your foreman didn’t have to tell you not to because you wouldn’t have either way, but if you did , you would wear your protective gear that is prescribed for you.

At the very least, they should've been wearing a 5 point harness and attached to a stable fixture, not the scaffold itself... There are DEFINTELY gonna be some lawsuits coming, and well deserved.

@@Bunkerdwarfputin: Many times the scaffold is the only thing that a worker can tie off to. Scaffold falls are the most common fatality on construction sites.

Seems like it is a contractor at fault here. Turner is a huge construction company and they have quite strict HSE policies (they also enforce on their crews)....massive lawsuits on the way.

Wondering if he was tied off and if so did whatever he was tied to also fall? ...... at a certain height you tie off no matter what, but it only works if what you're tied off to holds when you fall.

There are safety measures in place since the 1970's, they're called safety harnesses approved by OSHA attached to the building itself that prevents workers from falling long distances to their death. They also are bungeed so they don't break the back of the person when it stops them from falling. Do your homework WGN NEWS and start blaming lazy workers who avoid safety on the job.
