I guess the idea of ending the series with the parents going off to London must have been an original idea, because that's not how they ended it in actuality. It ended with Alex accepting a job in New York and getting ready to leave home. And while getting ready to head out to the taxi waiting for him, he makes one last dash inside to share a hug with his family.
