Costco is more money than Aldi
@PepperSprayed-bc5de7 ай бұрын
Remember, Aldi and Lidl (both German firms) are PRIVATE-LABEL retailers. In effect, generic brands. No brand-names. (Sure, Coca-Cola, Hershey's...Ubiquitous.) Much like Costco (which is an American company, of course) with its Kirkland house-brand, though on a much grander scale, and, truthfully, higher quality than Aldi/Lidl.

Hope this clarifies: "The H. J. Heinz Company is an American food processing company headquartered at One PPG Place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.The company was founded by Henry J. Heinz in 1869. Heinz manufactures a couple thousand food products in plants on six continents, and markets these products in more than 200 countries and territories. The company claims to have 150 number-one or number-two brands worldwide. Heinz ranked first in ketchup in the US with a market share in excess of 50%; the Ore-Ida label held 46% of the frozen potato sector in 2003." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinz

The U.K. national government (Westminster) operates a farm-protection program whereupon it helps to subsidize agriculture at both the retail and commodity level. It does this for fear of foreign domination of native industry. The United States offers farm subsidies to farmers, not retailers, as in the U.K. American prices fluctuate with market forces, unlike the artificial propping-up done by Westminster. That is why you'll see marginal differences for certain products, namely produce. (The margins are really not that different....) Great Britain is fearful of foreign dominance of its native ag-sector.

Years ago I had a home big enough, and a full-size van big enough, and three refrigerators in that large home, that transporting a ton of groceries and finding places to put them once we arrived home was no problem. We routinely spent around $1,000 each time we went shopping at Costco, but only went grocery shopping once a month for the four adults living in our home. That included alcohol in addition to food. Now we are old, don't eat much, are empty nesters, and have down-sized into a smallish condo, and drive a mid-sized sedan. We don't need the portions offered at Costco, might not have room in the sedan to get them back to the condo, and have no place to put them once we get there. We haven't shopped at Costco for maybe 15 years, but it was fun while it lasted, especially all their free food samples on Saturday mornings. Brunch at Costco was the rule for the day.

Food prices went up during Covid, but for a single people like me, food is still one of the things that's still fairly affordable.

You see, you hit the nail on the head: You have to shop around in the United States, for this is a seemingly unlimited marketplace of enormous variety. Three brands of deodorant or toothpaste? No, more like twenty. In both choice and variety and pricing options, the American consumer marketplace is unrivaled. Brand-name. House-brand/Private label/Generic (like Aldi and Lidl) with each store having its own house-brands. Food clubs. Coupon-clipping. (Now, THAT would be something you should explore...) Bulk stores. Discount houses. Now, of course, online shopping. I can see how the American shopping experience overwhelms visitors/tourists/transplants. And, if you don't know what you're doling, you may wind-up paying more . . . . Do your homework, and SHOP AROUND.

I think the way you were only know about the baked beans you have with your English breakfast, here in the U.S. there’s a huge variety of beans, not just the beans made into baked beans. The main beans we use around the U.S. are pinto beans, which is also used for Mexican food (whole beans or refried beans).. And because we have a large variety of beans, there’s so many recipes for the different kinds of beans. I’m not too fond of most beans except Pinto beans. Being that I’m Mexican-American, my family born and raised in California since the mid 1900s, generation after generation, we always have pinto beans in our cupboards. It’s like a staple in our home. I really don’t like a lot of ingredients added to my beans, and I love Bush’s baked beans, but my mother used to always buy Campbells’s baked beans, the popular brand also in the U.K., but most of Americans always bought Campbells baked beans. And then Bush’s baked beans came along and we liked the flavor even more! Funny how that happened. We see t.v. commercials about Bush’s baked beans daily! Lol… I guess since there’s a large variety of beans, people can get creative with beans! Lol.. 😉🤷🏻♀️

Katy got to visit a Dollar General we have to 3 kind. Ones a market where it has fresh produce, 2nd is Home store. Has so much stuff! 😆 the 3rd one is just normal one. It is smaller. Jojo they do have Legos. 😆 coolest thing about the Dollar General is the hidden PENNY items. We like to refer to it as Penny Shopping. Every week the company puts out a shelve pull list to the stores. The employees are suppose to pull it. But with the store policy. If the customer finds it. It rings up as 1 penny. The employee must sell that item for 1 penny & then go pull the rest. We never leave the rest though. 😆 I've gotten so hundreds clothes & shoes for mere dollars & turned around & donate to different non profits aka charities .. To learn this you have to be in a group. 😊
