I have mirror identical twins friends since we were 15. The oldest seems taller, heavier, and broader features. Plus, one’s right handed, the oldest is left handed and more aggressive than her sister. I mean by the slightest amount, but I can tell them apart from a distance. Others would say they’re identical

Epigenetic variation also occurs in identical twins, from before birth. This variation increases due to differences in experience, including even injury and eating choices, along with illness and so many other differences that i will stop here. This is why they can look and even think in vastly different ways. So beware of simplistic presumptions you may make.

How about an Athletes gene? If the child is a Son(Male) Are his athletic genes from the father or mother?
@ajd25757 жыл бұрын
Could you explain this?: on 23andMe in DNA relatives, it says that this middle aged woman is my 1st cousin (same in AncestryDNA), & this this lady is my dad's half sister. Doesn't make any sense because my dad doesn't have any half siblings. I know you can inherit DNA more from one side than the other but it can't be that this lady is so much related that by DNA she can pass as my dad's half sister and my first cousin.
@FamilyHistoryFanatics7 жыл бұрын
This lady is your dad's half sister and your half aunt. All of the companies don't report half or double relationships beyond half siblings because there would be so many overlap possibilities. Half aunts and cousins share approximately the same amount of DNA so that is why it is reported as a cousin for you. (I have this exact same situation on some of the kits I manage). It is possible (although highly unlikely) that this person is more distantly related by a generation and on the high end of inheritance which makes it appear as a half sibling. However, I have never found a match on any of the companies that is reported as a half sibling and then found to be a 1st or second cousin or aunt/uncle. (These are the only relationships that are remotely possible to share the same amount of DNA as a half sibling). The most likely situation is that your dad didn't know that he had a half sibling.

I feel like my DNA has come out very strange. The company said it was because of recombination. My maternal grandmother was 6% England and Northwestern Europe (Ancestry), my maternal grandfather is 56% England and Northwestern Europe (Ancestry), and my dad is 31.2% English (My Heritage). How am I 96.4% English (My Herotage) if I am completely related to these family members?

Ethnicity results vary with different companies, so I would suggest you and your father also test with Ancestry. That way you're comparing apples/apples.

Have a question, do i share genes with my grandmother? I mean my dad's mother, and second question is, males have one X and other is Y, and Females have two XX, there is a chance that i share 50% with my grandmother? (My mom's mom) tbh it makes sense but i guess genes are more mixed, and if i share genes with my (dad's mother) it effect my personality? I mean some genes effect personality..

We get 23 chromosomes from our father, and 23 chromosomes from our mother. Do these chromosomes stay segregated, or do they get shuffled up? Will my child get the 23 from my dad, 23 from my mom, or a combination of both?

How come genes skip generations
@FamilyHistoryFanatics2 жыл бұрын
First, we need to define our terms. Genes, a unit of heredity which is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristic of the offspring. If a person's child does not inherit a gene, the child cannot then pass it on to their future children. However, in endogamous populations, the gene can show up again in offspring because that gene come from the spouse that did inherit the gene. Which makes researching endogamous populations difficult. Genes DO NOT skip generations. By contrast, a TRAIT can skip generations. Traits are specific characteristic of an individual (such as eye color, hair color, blood type, among others). Some traits are not purely genetic but have an environmental component. As such, TRAITS can hide out in a person behind a dominant trait. The recessive trait needs another carrier and a bit of luck to be seen. This means that it can sometimes take a few generations to finally make its presence known. Or, the right environmental conditions for off-spring to present the trait.

is it true that athletic performance is inherited from your mother?
@FamilyHistoryFanatics4 жыл бұрын
I doubt it. Athletic performance seems to me to be controlled by a huge number of factors that it would be impossible to state it is inherited from a single parent. It is definitely inheritable (the biggest indicator of whether you will be a professional baseball player is that your dad was a professional baseball player).

Yes and No. You do not inherit mitochondria DNA from your father's mother and you do not receive any X chromosomes from her either. You do receive autosomal DNA from all of your grandparents, including the father's mother.

My parents had seven kids...two girls, the first being me, then five boys. None of us look much alike. What is the chance that in a large family every piece of the couple's dna ends up in at least one of their offspring?
@FamilyHistoryFanatics7 жыл бұрын
Every piece? Very small but still possible. Although the more children the more likely it is to happen. With 1 child, it is 50%, with 2 children it is 75%, 3 children is 88%, 4 children is 93%, 5 children is 97%, 6 children is 98%, and 7 children is 99%. So your family is still probably missing 1% of your parents DNA.

I'm not sure about the science. Because your explanation appears to mutate. Your DNA with each generation mutate. If that's so then we are evolving to someone else. My children look identical to my ancestors on both sides. Great and great great grandparents. Scary!! How's that possible? Lot of work still needs to be done before I can except this.
