WIDE REIMU.
Although objectively speaking, this is not one of the hardest Lunatics in the series, this has got to be at least a contender for the most aggravating.
Easy, Normal and Hard are frankly not all that different from each other, mostly just shyly adding more bullets here and there, but Lunatic takes the irritation to a whole new level by making every single enemy in the game shoot aimed revenge bullets at you, and the game speed is finally turned up to such a point where the limitations of this crusty engine really start to bubble to the surface.
Nothing feels consistent in this game, especially not when it comes to movement and hitboxes. Reimu used to be a much WIDER girl before donations to her shrine dried up, I guess. The "punting a hockey puck on the floor" quality to the movement that all the PC98 Touhou games have is at an all time high here, probably particularly because of the absence of Focus for finer movements. Despite all of this, this is one of the games that feels most comfortable just shoving bosses and other assorted crap right on your face. Bombing also feels VERY off, if you need to bomb, you're gonna have to realise that well ahead of time. There are no deathbombs in this game, but if there's a bullet coming to your direction with any amount of haste it feels like you might as well not have bombs either.
I'm just very happy to have this over with. Now I only need to finish Extra to never touch this game again.
