Maradona is considered the grearest of all time by 50% of football fans. The other 50% thinks it's Pele. But that's what football fans have thought historically, now this generation has a player that is changing that people's opinion, and now people just don't decide either Maradona or Pele but now also Messi has got into that list. Many people say "Ronaldo is compared to Messi, but Messi is compared to Maradona and Pele", in order to explain that Ronaldo is a great player from this generation but Messi will be remembered as one of the greatest of all time, if not the greatest. So in less words, we are lucky to see Messi, cause that's like seeing Michael Jordan or Mohammad Ali in their time.

Fernando Pulido In my opinion, is impossible to compare Messi to Pelé or Maradona, because the game has changed in many ways, it's unfair to do it, it's unfair to Messi because there is always a nostalgia thing about Pelé and Maradona, but it's unfair to them because a lot of people didn't see them play (I didn't see), and obviously nowadays we have more technology what helps the game in a lot of ways. So, the three are football legends and it's better to see like that, trying to compare them isn't a necessary thing, they are 3 great players and that is it. And my opinion is equal to Cristiano Ronaldo as well, I just like to watch great players doing what they know.

Gabriel Ventura Yea I feel you. But if we talk about the fact that football has changed, we can say that it's more difficult for players to make solo goals and important individual perfomances these days. The defence in the times of Pele wasn't the same that what it is now, same with Maradona era. And Messi, in this generation, has done things that we have only seen in the 80's. But what I appreciate about Maradona, even tho his time's defence was not so organized, is that he won important cups completely by himself. He rapped the whole world in the Mexico 86' world cup, and he changed italian's football by himself and made Napoli champions, a team that was absolutely nothing before he got there. Pele is the king because he made 1284 goals in his career and won 4 world cups, but it's completely impossible to make 1000 goals in today's football. So what Messi is doing is not normal, if you pay attention to his numbers, and he skills, considering his era, you can deduce that he's not normal. He just was born with more talent than anyone. And you can tell that by watching his videos of when he was 5 years old.

And Maradona was a genious, but he did somethings that didn't helped his career, and it is a shame. Btw, when a player that has played with Messi or Ronaldo, or against them, that going to make their opinion even more biased than anyone else, because they have to support their teammates. If u ask a Real Madrid player they most likely say Ronaldo(Juventus now). If u ask a Barcelona player they will say Messi. Some who’s played with both, like Pique, will give the answer that u just heard. It’s actually better to hear from older pundits, that have no connection to either of the players, like nationality, clubs played for, clubs managed, clubs played against, players managed, supported clubs(who they support), blood connections, family team support. U don’t want any of that. All these players have a connection to Messi, except Rooney and Ferdinand. Pique has both.
