Hi Steve, I stumbled upon your video as I was looking up my dad, John Ireland. Your coverage is interesting, and most importantly, respectful - thank you! I thought you might find it an interesting bit of trivia that Mendel Meyer, who you also showed in the SB Cemetery, was the stepfather of MY grandfather. So he was my dad's father-in-law's stepfather. Complicated, I know!! And my dad's closest friend was Larry Harvey, whom you showed and is buried alongside his daughter, Domino (with whom I spent happy times as a little child). Just a bit of curious info for you, as it seems sometimes there really are two degrees of separation in the world, not six! (If you ever make it back there again, the grave of Ronald Coleman is beautiful; a large marble monument with a quote from The Tempest carved on the front). All best wishes, Daphne Ireland

I wish I could remember who did the video on it but I can't remember. Ronald and Nancy both had plots in the Santa Barbara cemetery and it was a true ocean view. I can't remember the section of it but you really couldn't get any closer to the ocean unless you were out of the cemetery and practically in the ocean. I believe they got the plots while Ronald was in office. The cemetery was worried about a logistical nightmare it would cause with the funeral and also visitation afterwards. I believe the plots were negotiated and sort of sold back to the cemetery right at the end of his term. The cemetery made a lot of money off of the sale, interest etc. And ultimately they avoided the headache. Somewhere though someone has done a video. Wish I could remember who it was. It's been some years back.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm sure others watching this video will find it interesting. Maybe one of them will know which video it is. I guess famous people can be both pluses and minuses for cemeteries. Thanks for sharing this!

Are the caskets buried under the name plates on the grass vertically? In the UK the headstone covers the whole section of where the casket is buried with individual border stones. In the YS you appear to have lots of names plates across grassy areas. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

The headstone or grave marker is usually at the head or top of where the casket is buried and the body is below the grassy area.

That last grave marker you showed in this video, with dog Baron in the middle of marker, is thad alowed in US to bury dog with owner or is it an exception, or maybe it is just a cenotaph. Do you know anything more about that? I`m not a fan of above ground burials but that chapel-mausoleum is more beautilul then some mausoleums on some more prestigous cemeteries like Forest lawn or Holywood hils, somehow this mauseleum is nice, calm and withouth kitsch. Great video as allways!
@TheGraveyardChannel6 жыл бұрын
Hi Igor, I wondered the same thing about the dog. That's what caught my eye. I really don't know what the law or policies are about pets being buried with their owners are. I think I remember hearing about the cremated ashes of a dog being buried with his trainer at another cemetery. Maybe someone else watching this video will know what the rules are, if any. Santa Barbara is a very wealthy community on the beach, and parts of town are very old and historic, so that probably explains why the grounds and mausoleum are so gorgeous. Thanks for the comment!
@ror14784 жыл бұрын
See reply to Naughtysauce above for the story behind this stone. While the family would have liked for the ashes of the owner and dog to be buried together, it was not allowed.
