Today, we pay our respects to Kenny Price as we remember one of the cast of Hee Haw! He was a local Northern Kentucky boy who made good, but never forgot his roots. Hee Haw fans will remember Kenny Price as one of the show's featured stars and the bass vocalist for the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet, which included Grandpa Jones, Buck Owens, and Roy Clark.
Later, Kenny Price and fellow Hee Haw cast member Lulu Roman got their own spin-off series called Hee Haw Honeys, which ran from 1978 to 1979.
Kenny was born in Florence, Kentucky, a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. He began playing guitar when he was only five years old. While serving in the Army during the Korean War, he auditioned for a USO show, and later decided to become a professional musician. He studied briefly at the renowned Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and became a musician on the Midwestern Hayride television show (a precursor to Hee Haw) on WLWT TV broadcast from Cincinnati, Ohio. He went on to take over as the show's host, well before his Hee Haw fame.
Kenny Price also had a long musical career. He worked with Ray Pennington. Kenny had 34 singles chart (including "Walking on the New Grass", "Happy Tracks", "Northeast Arkansas Mississippi County Bootlegger", "The Sheriff of Boone County", and The Shortest Song in the World".
Kenny was a big guy, earning him the nickname, "The Round Mound of Sound". He later wrote a song by the same name. He also wrote songs with his wife, Donna Price, including the hit "Let's Truck Together". The two later starred in a RV travel show called, "Wish You Were Here". Kenny Price died of a heart attack in 1987.

We watched the "Round Mound of Sound" on the Midwestern Hayride on the Nation's Station WLW. Cincinnati was certainly the home of many broadcasting pioneers with good reason. WLW had a centrally located 50,000 Watt broadcasting station that started out as the only 500,000 Watt station in the country.

Thanks for watching Rocky Coyote. Yes, WLW has a long history. Cincinnati radio and television was a force to be reckoned with back in the day.

The song leader, of the Baptist church I attended when I was younger, was first cousins to Kenny. She was so proud of him. Being musically inclined must have run in the family.Thank you for bringing back memories of days gone by. 💞

Great job. I appreciate all the research you do creating your vlogs. It really brings back the people and places you do on your vlogs and is a great legacy to the life they led and the places they frequented. Hee-Haw was a regular watch at our house growing up, not because it was my favorite show, but my dads Lol

Fascinating story😎 Amazing how so many comedians could actually sing and act. I loved to hear a lot of them sing their gospel songs. I enjoy the old gospel sounds so much more than what you hear today🤩 Thanks so much for sharing this story, and this lovely old country cemetery....Those nasty geese could have stayed in Canada🙄🐾🦊🐺 (Hope George, and all of you are OK this week and hope you have a wonderful week ahead)
