Norman Jeffrey Healey (March 25, 1966 - March 2, 2008) was a Canadian jazz and blues-rock vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter who attained musical and personal popularity, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s. He hit Number 5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart with "Angel Eyes" and reached the Top 10 in Canada with the songs "I Think I Love You Too Much" and "How Long Can a Man Be Strong".
For over two decades, Jeff enjoyed a successful music career that spanned rock, blues and traditional jazz. Grammy nominee and Juno award winner, he was a radio personality, a jazz historian and world famous record collector (owning a collection of 1920’s and ‘30’s jazz 78s that would ultimately top out at over 30,000 records).
With the Jeff Healey Band, he recorded five studio albums and contributed to the soundtrack of the cult classic film, Patrick Swayze’s Road House; a film in which Jeff and the band were featured prominently. Over the years, Jeff’s reputation as a player and a person led him to perform and record with such incredible luminaries as Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, John Mayall, Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones, Lenny Kravitz, George Harrison, Mark Knopfler, Ian Gillan and many, many more.
In addition to countless recording sessions as a guitarist, trumpet player, singer and producer, Jeff also recorded three albums of the traditional American jazz that he loved so much. Just prior to his untimely passing, Jeff put the finishing touches on the award winning ‘Mess Of Blues’, his first rock/blues album in nine years.
On January 11, 2007, Healey underwent surgery to remove metastatic tissue from both lungs. In the previous 18 months, he had two sarcomas removed from his legs. On March 2, 2008, Healey died of sarcoma in his home town of Toronto at the age of 41. He was buried at Park Lawn Cemetery, Mausoleum & Cremation Centre in Etobicoke, Ontario. Healey's death came a month before the release of Mess of Blues, which was his first rock/blues album in eight years.

Jeff was one of the greatest guitarists to ever live. His guitar playing was revolutionary in the fact that he played it across his lap and used his thumb to play combined chords that would simply blow the roof off of any venue he played. Listen to his song "See the light" and you wil TOTALLY hear his gift. Rest in peace Jeff, you definitely left your impression in the blown minds and ears of an entire generation.

I am a huge fan of Jeff's! I did not know he had passed away until now. I have to say, other than Stevie Ray Vaughn, I have never seen a more soulful white boy blues guitarist than Jeff! The boy made you feel his songs and that is why he was such a rare talent to me. An amazing guitar player and singer. I will miss him and his music. I will continue to discover more of his music and always be a fan of his and the blues. R.I.P. my brother!

I remember when he was on several news shows on CBC and Much music. He released “See The Light” before Roadhouse because I bought the album/tape before the movie was out, I was hooked. Here was a a guy that was blind, played the guitar like a piano and hit notes that a regular guitar player can’t hit. Jeff made “Roadhouse Blues” by the Doors popular in the Roadhouse movie. That guy could really play something special. I call him “ the blind Hendrix”.

Went to high school with Jeff Healey at Etobicoke Collegiate institute in the 80s. He had a huge bunch of students around him all the time. Nice kid. I used to play ball hockey when I was a kid in that park inside the tennis court located off Park Lawn. Of course back then it wasn't called Jeff Healey park. I used to like it because it was secluded on a dead end.

Regardless of any struggles or disadvantages Jeff may have had, he selflessly gave his gift of music to the world. Not to say that he saw them as 'struggles'... he seemed to effortlessly wade through life, always with laughter and a smile. Guy's a legend of Blues guitar. Maybe you have to be blind, to get guitar tone, like that... that extremely 'fine tuned' ear was a gift, to us! Thanks for the vid. I imagined hearing a teenage Jeff Healey playing guitar, as you walked in his neighbourhood. ❤

Hi. I’m new to your channel. Jeff Healey brought me here. I’m in love with his music, especially his ‘See The Light’ album. Thank you so much for going out to the grave and the park I never knew about. Jeff was truly one of a kind and it breaks my heart to know that I’ll never get to meet him. Sadly, he passed away the same year my father passed away, both from cancer… My father died just 3 months after Jeff. I’ll forever be grateful to the movie ‘Roadhouse’ because that’s how I discovered Jeff. It’s still such a great film all these years later, so is the soundtrack, but Jeff Healey and the music really made that movie great, aside from the great cast, the mood of the film and all the great martial arts performances of course. I never knew that Jeff played with B.B. King! I had the privilege of seeing B.B. King perform at the Doheny Jazz & Blues Festival at Doheny Beach here in California and he was brilliant! I’ll never forget him coming to the stage in an all-leather American flag jacket. I’d pay good money to go back in time and see Jeff Healey and B.B. King perform together. How magnificent that would be. Thanks again for this! I liked and subscribed. 🌹

I think he played like he absolutely HAD to, from his soul as most blues artists do. It's what makes the music so very good. You just want to tilt your head back and close your eyes and let it soak in. Yes, Roadhouse was and still is a guilty pkeasure, who wouldn't love Swayze and Elliot accompanied by the blues? It never pretended to be an Oscar contender but it was a simple movie with good guy winning against bad guy. Hope Jeff is resting in peace picturing joining in with the greats that went before him.

I found this 2 year old video and it made my day. I have a Fender Stratocaster Deluxe 70's headstock very much like Jeff. My then G.F. insisted I learn how to play Angel Eyes and that's how I was introduced to Jeff. I then saw him on Road House and on David Letterman where he played Confident Man and stood next to a chair wailing on a guitar solo then sitting back down and finishing the song. It was and still is awesome. I was deeply saddened to hear of his death years ago, thanks for remembering him.☮☮☮

My dad worked with his dad on the Etobicoke Fire Dept. He was adopted when he was a baby and lost an eye to cancer, children's aid offered to take him back but his parents said no they wanted to keep him. Not long after the cancer spread to his other eye which he also lost so he never knew what it was like to see. He rebelled a little as a teenager as most do, when he was of age to get his license he wanted to learn how to drive (not kidding), he couldn't understand why someone couldn't sit beside him and just say turn right turn left etc.

I fortunately got to meet Jeff Healey. Back in 2000 my wife and I travelled to Canada to visit family. we were at a library of all places (my cousin and my wife wanted books). I was waiting outside having a smoke when Jeff comes walking past. I said " Holy Shit, it's Jeff Healey", with a smile on his face he responded with "Holy Shit, Where?" (It was pretty funny, you had to have been there). I don't remember a lot about the conversation (conversation was only about a minute or so), it was pretty much basic "how long you been in town?" "Where you from?" sorta stuff. I remember though that he was really nice and pretty down to earth. I also remember he had older couple with him, I assumed they were his parents but never actually asked. World lost a good soul when he left us. RIP Jeff.

I saw them twice in Glasgow in the early 1990's and met them after the gig. He was a very nice guy. Rest in peace old chap. You did great.

Jeff lived on Bonnyview dr. I grew up just a few blocks away. I played guitar and had no idea a guitar virtuoso genius lived a few minutes away till high school where we would eventually meet. Btw, Jeff Healey park is on Bonnyview. Cool video tribute!! 👍
