Personally, this is my number 1 MCR song. I'm not joking. Yes, I love Welcome to the Black Parade (I think everyone loves that song by now~), I love Helena, I love Teenagers, I love a lot of their songs. But Famous Last Words...this song, just strikes a chord in me that I cannot explain. I think it's the chorus itself just feels so powerful and as it plays again, and again, it's like a powerful mantra that can get you through some of the worse things life can throw at you. For me, it was the one thing that kept me going. My home life sucked growing up, but this song helped me through a lot of the obnoxious bull that my family threw at me in my teen years. It literally told me, "Don't be afraid of moving on and keep going because these toxic people will MAKE you wait for them. It's up to you to either move on alone...or stay and be miserable." I know nowadays people would say from Hamilton "Dying is easy, young man, living is harder," but for me, it's this chorus: do not be afraid to live. Do not be afraid to advance alone. I can stop and allow someone to join me...but nothing will deter me from my goal.

DragonGamer0713 Wow! Thanks for sharing that! I think that call to people who have to practice self-reliance is one of the reasons this song is so beloved. It’s my favorite of theirs as well. I’ve actually been listening to it a lot the last few months. I was very blessed with my family, they’re amazing. But when I was 11 I started having some symptoms of a few chronic pain disorders, I was diagnosed by the time I was 12, homebound (only saw a teacher for three hours a week at my house, no help with math, science, Spanish, no instruction). And we tried a lot of things, but I never got better. My friend slowly kept moving on through their social lives and, well, I was a bummer. I was sick, I was in pain, I wasn’t up to date with the new students in the friend group. So I lost absolutely everyone but my family. After testing and being negative for 17 years, we found out a few weeks ago I have Lupus and Lyme Disease and will need to move from Tennessee to Virginia (D.C. really) for treatment, for FIVE YEARS of intensive treatment. It’s going to suck. The way it was described to me, the treatments are going to make me a lot sicker. It’s like non-cancer chemo sort of. But if I don’t do it, I’ll be sick and 100% disabled until I die. I’m only 28, but I’ve been sick 17 years. I’ll be sick for 25 years at least by the time I’m done. I’m fighting for my life, in slow motion, the worst marathon ever, lol. So for me, having other people is nice, but they aren’t really to be depended on. All that matters, all that can matter, is moving forward, because if I don’t, I will be stuck inside my apartment, in pain, never leaving, until I die. So for me, music that can help me with my courage, my resolve, it’s important. I hope you stay true to your goals and don’t let anyone, family or otherwise, hold you back merely because that’s what they prefer. It’s not their life, it’s yours, and you have to make peace with what you choose to do with it, just like they’ll have to do with theirs. Keep moving forward.

This was the first MCR song I heard over the radio back in the day. It is my favorite of their songs too. My home life wasn't great either. Molestation, physical, and mental abuse by my father. Unstable housing and constant moving from state to state. This song was also my gateway into hard rock, and later my love of many metal genres. Heavy music was an outlet for all the negativity around me. I never knew I needed that either. I am grateful to this song.

@@awhryan It's because the people it touches feel the meaning behind the words beyond the theme of the album itself. This song was originally meant to be a single if I remember correctly, it ended up on *The Black Parade* via insistence of one of the band members. This is not a bad thing, if anything it adds its own touch to the whole, and it lets people connect that might be going through rough stuff in their lives. If anything, this song deserves more credit than most of the other content on that album simply for that virtue.

Y'know, when I was in high school and college, I loved MCR so much, but I never shared that fact with anyone. I was embarrassed for liking 'emo' music. Now ten years later a bunch of guys my age are pouring their hearts into performing these songs and publicly putting them out on the internet. If only I had that courage when I was younger. Ah well.
