My wife and I got the chance to see Jim Best at the Pekin, IL Marigold Festival in 2006. I always enjoyed his antics on the Dukes of Hazzard when I was a kid. I got a few video clips of his speech. He was a talented artist too. I didn't realize he was from Indiana. In fact, I was surprised so many stars were from there. Great video!

My husband and I were once doing some back road exploring in Michigan. Somewhere south of Holland, we stumbled upon a park that had a heritage apple orchard. One of the trees supposedly had come from Johnny Appleseed. You can even pick an eat the apples if you wanted.

You were only steps away from the grave of William Taylor, Governor of Kentucky in 1899 and didn't know it. I have walked from his grave over to sit by Riley's grave when I was younger and lived in that area. If you don't know his story, given this is an election year, you may wanna check it out. RIP Pa, I pray I get back to visit your grave and the rest of our family buried beside you before I join you in heaven. I call him Pa because he was my great grandfather and that's what everyone called him in the family. Pa's daughter, my great aunt Letha Taylor Bailey, became a kindergarten teacher when she grew up and one of her students was John Dillinger. She was up at that theater in Chicago with her husband the night Dillinger was shot and they viewed his body there in the alley. She always would say what a sweet little boy he had been and how it saddened her to see what he became. She is also buried there in the old family plot next to Pa and Ma. I miss her so much.
