Ippodo is probably the most famous tea shop in Kyoto. They've been in the tea business since 1717 and offers only the best quality teas from Kyoto.

Everything about the "tea culture" is more therapeutic. The sounds of the tinkling porcelain, the waiting, the steam, the feeling of the warmth in your belly. The subtle flavor . The appreciation of time spent in contemplation. I have my teatime every day. It is a ritual. A ceremony.Like a prayer. A good time to pray.or just relax.

It's amazing that the tea house has been there since the 1700 hundreds just experiencing entering a place so old. I felt relax just watching your video. I can't imagine how relaxing it is in person. Thank you for sharing the experience of kyoto's wonderful and beautiful place to visit. Have a beautiful day.

It said they have been in the tea business since 1700s, not that they have been in that building since 1700s. Nice thought though.

Thank you Shinichi and Satoshi. My great great ancestors came from China but we're not Chinese. We're a minority group which the Chinese called Miao, here in America we're called Hmong. We also love having sweet rice pounded into mochi the traditional old way that I once saw on KZbin in Japan. Here in America I was taught the old traditional ways to make food by my mother. I hope to get a Mochi rice maker to make the rice cakes. Love watching your videos.

Thank you both for sharing your tea and wagashi with us. Kyoto is such a beautiful place. I try and drink a cup of iced green tea every day, as it has been so hot. As of late, I can only have decaf, because the caffeinated green tea is too acidic for me. I miss having Japanese tea and wagashi with my mama. Natsukashi ne. Take care! ❤❤

I like a strong Gyokuro. Would have loved to sit on that table with you guys and enjoy the tea. Next year, Japan-journey is in sight, if there is no new virus or WW III.😒 People should drink more tea! Greetings from Saxony/ Germany.

I agree, Shinichi, processes which force us to slow down and focus are relaxing. Just the repetition alone gets one out of one's head. 👍Thank you and Satoshi for this look into Ippodo and for sharing your tea and wagashi with us. It was a lovely interlude. ♥♥

Yes If I am relaxing at home or I have a lot of work to complete I like some Hojicha Powder instead of Matcha for a change. Red wine with steak and a beer with burgers. 👍🏻 and coffee every day but Not after 5pm or I would never sleep.

What a great tea house. I've lately been drinking tea in the morning instead of coffee. In the States, coffee is king. I enjoy green tea and orange spice black tea. Do they read tea leaves in Japan?

I live in Connecticut and my beverage of choice is tea, when at home. In restaurants I drink coffee. American restaurants just don't know how to properly make tea. I generally prefer a black tea, English Breakfast etc.

Love the design on Satoshi's wagashi! But I think I would chose the mochi. Just love the chewy texture. Usually I get sencha, I'm not really liking gyokuro even though it is a top tea. But my favourite is genmai cha (sometimes with matcha mixed in). And I had a specialty tea I bought in a Shinjuku department store that I loved but never found it again.

Wagashi is not suitable as a souvenir because it does not last long. Green tea is also difficult for amateurs to brew. So I would definitely encourage tourists to try them in Kyoto.

That depends on the tea being brewed. Green Tea (such as the Japanese Genmaicha shown in the video) does not require the rinsing process.
