Mike Boots was the Tuba section leader they interviewed from Jacksonville, FL. I was in band with him at Robert E Lee high school, which was then directed by the incredible Homer St. Clair who was a member of FAMU's band, and molded our band into the same kind of band. If I remember the number, we had 63 band members and would routinely blow out bands of much larger size because of the way we were taught to put everything into it. Lots of fond memories of our band's trip to mee the FAMU band and spend some time learning from them.

I was so surprised to see this clip. I remember some of these faces. I remember when we did the Welch's grape drink and the 60 Minutes taping in Bragg stadium. We were to prove we were marching during the rattler and they recorded the sound of our points and drive.

Thanks for posting this....saw it way back when as a kid (upstate NY) and it made an impression... Now I'm loving on KZbin with all the great FAMU marching band videos. My only wish...ESPN/Fox/CBS...put more focus on these incredible marching bands. Kanye, are you listening?

7:47 That was my high school band teach Mr. Moore. He saw great potential in all of his band students and is very clever in his attempts to bring it out in us.

LOL....... This is a great story!!!!! Unfortunately and yet sadly they are still doing the same thing in 2018!!!! This is their problem! They have a very rich tradition and I'm not saying change everything but they need to seriously revamp their program because you may as well put 2018 on this and it will be the same thing you see every Saturday this season!!!

That is true, and also that they are not doing what the tradition dictates no where nearly as well as they were when this documentary was made. The "rattler" or "fast march" is NO where nearly as fast as it used to be, and the marching, flag corps, enthusiasm and drum majors are simply not just that great anymore. I miss my OLD Marching 100. ...and btw, they really need a female dance line. Times have changed!

that exactly are other bands doing that's different except stealing form the 100?

The 100. will still do just what Dr. William P Foster worked so hard for it's a tradition that keeps on.going strong.
