Amazing quality. FAMU and BCU have always had my respects in regards to precision and quality musicianship.

Every time someone insults FAMU, notice that they always say the same thing. The negative comments usually are: "Big, sorry A** band" or "FAMU suck." These are literally the only comments people can come with. They are comments of jealousy. Let's be honest. FAMU is a great band. Besides FAMU's unmatched showmanship, it is quite obvious that the hundred values musicality over blasting. Blasting is what schools like Southern and Alabama do and it tricks people into believing that they sound good because they are playing a popular hip-hop or R and B tune at such a loud volume. HBCU bands have become more about who can play the loudest vices who can play musically. Many commenters say other schools play louder than FAMU. Well, my take is, anybody can make sounds, but can you make music? I believe FAMU makes music. I hear more sounds coming from HBCU bands such as Southern, Alabama and JSU than I hear music. There is also this thing called intonation in which I believe most HBCUs ignore. Although FAM is not always in tune, you can still count on FAM to be in tune more often than most HBCUs. FAMU is one of the only HBCU bands where you can hear all instruments within their ensemble including the woodwinds. The next time someone from another school posts a negative comment about FAMU, back up your comment with intelligent feedback vices ignorant statements. Let us know why you feel the way you do. Thank You.

Right now famu needs to worry about rebuilding its program and nothing else. Wish the 100 the best of luck. Whopping ass is the reason the 100 sounded so good..Yall had the freshman scared to mess up..lol but as I said hopefully famu bounces back..My son really loves this band I'd hate to tell him I dont want you going here because if somebody trys to put you in the cut im going to kill them...you catch my drift lol good luck 100...

All the schools you just called out for being in technical are SWAC school . Every time some from Famu or any other Meac School comes for a Swac school its always " their to loud " " all the play is hip hop tunes " . It doesn't matter whether it be " Night on Bald mountain " or freakin lil Wayne there are musical elements . Now I can say yea some swac school ignore intonation and balance but you ignore schools like UAPB or AAMU who values balance and blend . As for Southern ,JSU , and ASU those are bands that can out power anyone they also can play technical . just because you play a march doesn't make you technical . you speak of R&B and Hip Hop as if its the lowest form of music . How can you say that when it is an art form created by some of HBCU's finest . stop hiding behind that old cloak and be more forward thinking . Power and Technique can coexist , don't believe me go watch Southerns 'Power ' video .

Edward Bevels What do you value as a musician? I value musicality. A band blowing at the top of their lungs is not what I call musicality. Musicians playing Instruments at such a loud volume does create a wall of sound. But it doesn't mean that wall of sound is a melodic sound. Anybody can make noise as I said previously. Yes, I do believe musicians can play with power and still sound good but power should not become the substitute for musicianship. As a musician, I was always taught to pattern myself after great musicians. I had to first learn what a great musician sounded like no matter what instrument they were playing. I listened to professional orchestras, jazz ensembles and even military bands and after you pattern yourself after these types of musical organizations, it becomes very apparent that we are losing musicality within the HBCU band community. When you say forward thinking, I feel you are saying I should adopt the new ways music is being played vices sticking to the traditions of musicality. When you listen to songs on the radio, those songs are in tune but the issue is when those same notes come out the bell of some instruments, the intonation and musicality is completely absence. By the way, I have the highest respect for R and B and Hip Hop. It's what I grew up on and it's what I still listen to today. The point is that people only believe these bands are great only because of the popular charts they are playing.

True well said..I totally agree especially about the woodwinds being heard most ppl claim there's no need for woodwinds but famu showcase why they're needed

I agree that most black college marching bands value a blasting sound over musicality. Florida A&M is one of the exceptions. I am sure there are others. I love that they play some of the most difficult marches.
