Finally saw the whole thing. Good overall. I think the biggest thing I'd like to see would be the attention to details now. The visual at 2:10 I'd like to be more pronounced. It looks unestablished at the time. Either making sure that everyone knows exactly when to do it (visuals are just as critical as the music) or if it's a ripple make it more defined so it can happen at the intervals that are understood to the audience. And the lick at 2:54 was a critical lick because it put the climax to the musical phrase. It'd probably be helpful to have snare sectionals, put on the Dr. Beat on the loudspeaker and start the lick at 60 bpm where everyone can define the same hand motion. Then gradually speed it up until it's about 15 bpm above performance tempo clean as a whistle. Then bringing it back down to performance tempo. For clarity: this season I'm looking to add critique to all the videos I watch. I'm a percussion specialist who has taught on all levels and I'm looking to sharpen my teaching gift by offering constructive criticism. I'm not looking to trash another school's drumline. I like to help improve in any way I can.

As an HBCU grad, I hope that your university has apologized and is making amends for the way you all have been treated. If not, please know and understand that THEY DO NOT DESERVE YOU!!! Do NOT allow them to treat you like slaves. YOU DESERVE BETTER!!! 🧡🧡🧡

The snares are dirty because they section is still transitioning to more of a BCU ish style. I can see that they do not have the enough core veterans there that will naturally assist in bringing up the new heads. Nonetheless, I like where they are going. Not on BCU level, but very respectable. Good job Z. They should call the white kid...Chip Jr. or Baby Chip. Old heads will understand that. Lol!!

@@MARCHING100PAPARAZZI No disrespect intended. I'm friends with many old heads of the Z. I'm KKPsi. I was section leader at HU in the 90's. I'm somewhat of a HBCU historian. One cannot dispute the influence BCU, specifically Pedro Orey has had on HBCU percussion. Every knowledgeable percussionist will agree with that statement. With that said, i've discussed the transition extensively that FAMU has been making with old Z members over the past few years. I love the evolution. But, right now, the Z is a baby S.I. and still trying to redefine its identity. The reality is that Dr. James held on to the traditional anesthetics of the Z a little too long. It's cool. Some would argue that the Z should have stuck with the old style. Southern, JSU, and many others haven't changed. And now that Dr. James has fully committed to the change, the Z has to allow for time before they will be able to be as polished as they would like reassembling the Z we remember. Many HBCU percussion sections have gone through this. I vividly remember when NCAT was garbage. Now? The section has found their identity and sweet spot. They won't out chop anyone, but they are good at what they do. Nonetheless, I look forward to the continuing development of the Z. Being born and raised in Florida, also having lived in Tally on Appleyard, I am and will always be a long time fan of tge Z and the 100. Lastly, Dr. James is a living legend and hopefully will get the recognition he deserves. AEA

Never judge a book by it's cover. The white snare drummer has chops and looks smooth. The whole section sounds very good.

Somebody buy the person that tunes the drums a drink 🥃 sheesh. Listening to this in my car they sound so full and rich which is a sound that’s been lost in most HBCU lines. That’s pure skill on the tune
