Yes Famu give us the cinematics and musicality on Earth Wind and Fire . Hubba! Side note , What people fail to realize is Famu isn’t going to break their classic sound , style or tradition just to battle Southern or any other band. There’s a way to enjoy both bands respectfully for their qualities they bring to the table .

Danisha I can see where you’re coming from , there are times I wonder how it would be if Famu got in battle mode but that comes with understanding that tradition is hard to break there. Even with them not having dancers , they won’t break on that tradition either . What I will say is back in the early 2000s I remember when FAMU played southern and they battled. Those were some games to be at ! Lol

@@Lakechalakin you explained it very well but they won't understand if they dont know were Da 100 come from, as I once stated; Southern is now what FAMU HAS DONE. If they check out FAMU AT SOUTHERN 1996 they will understand. Lol.

Socially Challenged righttttt , they went at it that year !!! But now a days most of these new “band heads “ want to hear rap tunes and all that matters to them is who is louder. Man I miss the days when Morris Brown was around , the old school Norfolk , Famu, BCU etc . Those bands were the epitome of musicianship . But like I said , I have equal respect for Swac bands Meac / Siac etc. They all have different traditions and bring something different to the table . No need for me to be biased. I’m just happy to see band programs are still thriving at most HBCUs.

Two totally different styles of Bands, but you have appreciate both because neither deviates from their identity. FAMU is more of a symphonic band and SU is more of a Power Show Band. I See A Lot of people making the same dumb argument so ima just sit this right here.➡️ And if you disagree let's discuss... Its not just because they're loud they're better. Yall are trying to combat an argument that no one who really knows what SU is about is making. Why is that so hard for stuck ups to understand? I'll put it this way: SU can do what Famu does. You can clearly hear what every section at SU is playing even though they play for power and entertainment. They have a clean balanced sound. But they're also powerful and can still be controlled and precise at all the same time, WHILE playing interesting and difficult arrangements and displaying musicality. BUT Let Famu try to crank up and see how fast that good sound goes out the window...(i.e. you can hear Famu trumpets struggling with tone quality on "Look back at it" as soon as they play those highlight notes by themselves) It takes lip strength AND musicianship to do what SU does the way they do it.
@Bmillz955 жыл бұрын
el_Lenny 500 if they southern can play complex chords in a lower volume, why not keep that same sound when they crank the volume?? Why are dynamics and intonation lost when SU goes anything about Mezzo forte? Lol if they’re truly an all around band,. They would be able to carry their symphonic sounds over to their marching band style and keep the same sound. You can CLEARLY hear every Insturment in FAMU’s band...
@el_lenny50045 жыл бұрын
@@Bmillz95 I'm confused. Are you saying you cant hear all voices and chords when they play loud? That sounds like a personal problem, Because I can hear every part. And why do they have to carry a symphonic band sound over to marching band? That's why they have a symphonic band and a marching band. 2 completely different animals which call for completely different approaches. But the short answer is: The main goal during a football game is to entertain and move the crowd. Who's better at entertaining? Numbers don't lie

It boggles my mind to read comments of “musically” inclined people continually justifying that louder is the new better! NOW I am always entertained by Southern and alllllllll SWAC programs. I am also entertained by MEAC and SIAC schools as well. You just have to switch up your mind set when you click on the clip, or pay your money to see them in person. One is not better than the other, they are just different. And FAMU is never going to get into a shouting match with anyone. Same goes for other bands such as Tennessee State. When Southern goes at it with another SWAC school it just sounds like a regular conversation, but when they go rounds with others.....it conveys as shouting. At the same time anyone who says the Southern is not musically superior is a fool. Anyone with discerning ears can hear all parts being played. But again, u have to tune ya brain to listen to it. But to the average person I can see how louder equals better...... it doesn’t. Louder is just more energetically pleasing for the lesser of intellect.

Thank you! I said in this set FAMU won this, and then hear came the SWAC sheep. I didn't like Southers's song selection. I felt that Southern could have and should have played different songs from thier book and I would have said they would have clearly won. Why did they play concert band clinic? To mock them? To say they sound quiet? If they wanted to say we can play just as good as FAMU, why didn't they just play a ballad? I'm confused.

FAMU is nice....but...... SU is a WAR MACHINE........not to be trifled with. If youre not coming to brawl dont get into the ring with them. Theyre simply too aggressive.
@sociallychallenged59635 жыл бұрын
I will never take anything from SU, but I've been around long enough to know that SU is what FAMU was or has been. FAMU IS THE ORIGINATOR and has inspired BLACK HIGH SCHOOL BANDS AND HBCU to be what they were. The MARCHING 100 moved on from battling, been there done that. Theyre modifying band again!
@thep23405 жыл бұрын
Socially Challenged dude come on now... dont do that....Southern has ALWAYS been ELITE. FAMU was as well but in their OWN way. Kinda like apples and oranges. FAMU has never been a battle band. Its not their thing..... they have always been SUPERB musicians though.

@@thep2340 lol wrong band, dude check the footage on youtube. I was in Da Hundred and you could never say FAMU wasnt a battle band. Classic and traditional is correct, but dont get it twisted bru. Da Hundred is HBCU History! And im juat saying that because im Alumni but the proof is there...must I list some footage for you?

Socially Challenged no sir.... FAMU has never been a battle band. You may have thought yall were or aspired to be but FAMU has never been a band to be feared in the stands.... theyve produced some beautiful sounds and some very nice field shows in the past but NEVER a battle band.....

I will always be DA 100's biggest fan (grew up with this awesome legacy). Unfortunately, this is NOT the FAMU Band I remember. I will agree that they had the best field show overall. So now.....here goes my honest opinion.....These young people on the flag corps are out of shape and an utter embarrassment. Personally, I would like to see them get a dance team (FL has the prettiest, well trained dancers). Unfortunately, today's college kids' minds are bombarded with "social media reality" that makes for a less disciplined college kid and band member. What FAMU was built on will NEVER return as a solid foundation of the greatest marching band tradition/legacy. They will have to change their tradition (never will happen because of the god-like respect for the GREAT Dr. William P. Foster). They are slowly moving into obscurity with the changing times. The SWAC bands are feasting on FAMU's lack of adaptability and focus on their tradition. I love FAMU and the band (my favorite), but their mass appeal and reverence as the BEST are only memories now!
@raynelson55463 жыл бұрын
FAMU STILL APPEALS TO THE MAJORITY OF THE REAL MUSICIANS THAT KNOW HOW REAL MUSIC/MUSICIANS SHOULD SOUND. Some bands have dumbed the game down to a blast festival, cranking, pushing your face through the bell. To make up for THE LACK BAND PAGEANTRY, REAL HALFTIME SHOWS AND A QUALITY SOUND. The world isn't fooled by the noise they've forced on their SWAC FANS. The difference will be clear when they are exposed to the INCOMPARABLE MARCHING 💯 SOUND. LOUD AF AIN'T THE ANSWER. Yes indeed the Flag Corp has to step up to the FAMU STANDARDS, 12 - 14 physically fit members (no excuses). But the band over-all is steps above the blasting. Read the comments, most people know the deal.

The only reason you can’t understand SU is because they’re in a stadium and loud asf. Famu isn’t loud which is why they seem more clear. Don’t do southern lol.
