I remember this game. SU fans was so disappointed they let FAMU come in and destroy them. They was big mad! That’s all I heard walking out the stadium.

There is no BAND RIVALRY like FAMU vs SOUTHERN. Both programs are PHENOMENAL. I can't wait until this RIVALRY is RENEWED. Only the mature are able to give credit where credit is due. #CarryON

After growing up watching the Bayou Classic, I was SURE that Southern was unbeatable...then mine eyes were opened when I was actually there to witness them getting blown out their own stadium! FAMU won this 5th Q battle. Field show comparisons aint even fair since SU has the same basic step 2 drill every performance. FAMU won the field show battle too.

I keep seeing the comment that Southern's arrangements are more complexed, yet the individual making this assumption is ONLY focusing on the TRUMPETS' part. This is foolhardy. Both programs are great. But to say that FAMU's arrangements are simplistic is asinine, especially when seeing Su have the horns, B-tones and Trumpets on the same note plus mostly whole notes. That argument seems biased. And to keep stating that you have a BS in Music is pointless when plenty of degree holders disagree. It's still an opinion. Also, I was at this game, thee video does Famu no justice. The power they packed that year was unreal. it literally hurt to stand in front of them. Thing is, they still played with balance. You needed to be there. This wasn't even close this year. And before you make the size argument, Famu was mostly woodwinds. The Brass was about the same. Count if you please. -There can only be One-

Many times they are, simplistic that is.....The exception are for the most part in the ballads and marches....Other songs are written wayyyyyyy to simplistically for my taste....

Yeah, Southern's Incomplete was hard to listen to. The phasing was horrible among other things. Their band is not built for concert selections.

If I’m being honest SU edged FAMU out by not doing too much in their arrangements and staying true to themselves. Crazier thing is going to be look at any other year and it’s the same result the jukebox BEEN destroying FAMU. Pick a year lmao!

I am from Florida and was at this game, because I played football for SU. I was talking smack about FAMU (Florida) coming to show Louisiana something. But, I was very impressed at how an undermanned SU band won this battle of the bands. I was there to see it all. It was a rainy shootout of a game. Southern won the game in a tough 50-49 victory I believe.
@gordonclarkii88965 жыл бұрын
IKYFL. LMAO. If you were at this game like you say, You'd know this wasn't even a close battle. FAMU won on sound, intonation, song selection, halftime, stands, and every other way, which is why you see so few videos of this game. People didn't even want to remember this game, and we know SU records EVERYTHING. I LOVE SU, but we can't be biased here. And as far as the outnumbered thing goes, FAMU'S extra numbers are due to a large WOODWIND section. So if you're saying that FAMU won from their numbers, you'd be saying that their woodwind section overpowered your brass section. Smh.

I don't see how FAMU can wax anybody's ass playing that simple music. SU was clearly superior in my opinion. and no I'm not a SU alumni. however I do have a bachelors in music. KAPsi spr. 76' yo!

Your opinion is your opinion. But to say FAMU is playing simple music is just not true. It makes me not value your opinion. Seems biased in some way.
@michaelwright93149 жыл бұрын
Anybody can play marches. The are nothing but scales. Everything else that they're playing is simple as hell.
@AMPlyfiedMusic9 жыл бұрын
I'm trying to see where you're coming from. To me it seem that FAMU has the more difficult arrangements with all the counter melodies and moving woodwind parts. I guess it's a matter of taste, and the contrast in styles from swac to meac. Both bands sound good but for me FAMU just sounds better.
@michaelwright93149 жыл бұрын
Yeah both bands sound good but to me SU sounds better. I like the brassy, screaming trumpet sound. I am NOT a southern alumni nor FAMU. however I love both bands I just prefer the SU Jackson State sound. Peace I am a Albany State university graduate. Music Education, BS.

@michaelwright931410 жыл бұрын
Ofcourse that FAMU band doesn't. SU don't need gimmicks or a thousand people in the band to sound good. FAMU needs gimmicks or something now that they only have a few people in the band because they really don't sound good at all now.
@michaelwright931410 жыл бұрын
And I am certainly not a FAMU hater. I'm just a musician myself making a point of observation. to me FAMU has never been able to play with SU. and they certainly cannot March with them! that's out of the question.
@DiamonMe10 жыл бұрын
Sir.. you are the only person in history to say that Famu plays simple music. The arraignments that Famu has are unmatched. And this particular battle SU is the one i hear playing alot of hole notes and the same notes i may add! If you want to hear low brass power skip to 5:55 . Mind you they are completely across the field! I wasn't in Famu's band but I still have no clue what you are listening to.. You may want to listen to "open my heart" again. Beautiful!
@michaelwright931410 жыл бұрын
first of all brother, I know plenty musicians that say the same thing about FAMU that I said. Actually that's what brought my attention to it. I didn't say they couldn't play technical music. Now that would be silly. but the arrangements are very simple. Especially when compared to the arrangements that Southern University play. SU is a brass machine. So is JSU, BAMA State, and a few other SWAC bands. I'm talking about FAMU prior to the suspension,not now! They really have gone down now. But hell that's nothing new. FAMU has never been able to play with SU on that tip. FAMU was aeesome in concert formation. But hell that's it! You guys need to stop fooling yourselves. At one time you had the largest marching band in the world, but that didn't make you the best. that's you all's thinking.
