@shirahime232 жыл бұрын
The first piece, "Cerulean," definitely takes inspiration from musical scoring unique to Ghibli, and might I add, reminded me of the BGM for the anime Victorian Romance Emma, especially ball scenes in Season 2. Some musician-composers are just so phenomenally gifted with weaving sounds into colors and transporting you to particular times and seasons. I'd love to have Kevin's work adapted in a Ghibli film, the piece is playful and innocent, but deep and tender, and almost sad towards the end. Marvelous art. The piece that followed, Scherzo in G, gave me serious, serious Sorcerer's Apprentice vibes. :) The third piece, At the Carnival, put a big smile on my face--seems like the quartet enjoyed it too. It's amazing how music can seem to tell a completely story (or at least, play a scene) so magically. "Hypersonic"--cool, because you can literally appreciate science in the sounds that you hear individually, and then combination just seals the deal. I don't know much about music, but the main word that got to me was 'modern.' "Canon-Squeeze Your Legs" is beautiful, could definitely feel the Chinese influence, and the passion across notes really comes translates. Found the end to be particularly endearing, a touch of bittersweet, before things are resolved in a tender, comforting way. By far the best for me was "Elegy." Truly loved how the composer captured 'lushness' through the different textures involved that swelled and came together so harmoniously (and heartbreakingly so). There is something so captivating and hauntingly tragic about this piece--and that end. I can't explain how unsettling it is while also being hopeful. Music is a mystery. Bravo to all four of your for doing such a splendid job!

Them stressing out about the hypersonic piece is the funniest thing I've seen all week.
@Sheidy2 жыл бұрын
I hardly comment and I know nothing about playing an instrument or composing a piece but I'd like to share what these pieces evoked in my mind! •'Cerulean' is a beautiful piece and I can absolutely hear the Ghibli/Hisashi influence. I could also imagine it in an RPG/JRPG style game it was really amazing! •'Scherzo' for some reason makes me think of old cartoons before voices were really added to characters. It makes me picture a dusty color pallet in autumn maybe the late morning of Halloween or the day prior. Some mischief is about to happen or someone is plotting~ •'At The Carnival' definitely helps with the description that the composer provided. Two kids running around enjoying themselves at something like a carnival or street market and then a feeling of being rushed or late home. Great imagery! •'Hypersonic Superconductor' makes me think of an 'old future' style movie intro just paper shuffling and big retro machines printing things and 50's style clothing and hair. •'Cannon on the Theme' sounds like intro music I would hear on an HBO original and I don't think that's a bad thing! I can see one of those artsy intros like from Westworld playing in the background. •'Elegy for String Quartet' makes em think of a hard journey through the night to be met with a pink and blue and grey sunrise. There's a moment of respite for the weary traveler or maybe their journey is over. Again I'm definitely no one who matters in regards to the actual composition or playing of these pieces, but I liked all of them and I think it's really incredible that people so young could make these in like a week! 😳 🤯 🥳

What a lovely idea: fans compose music for a very talented group to play. I was most impressed with every piece. All different and beautiful in their own uniqueness. Thank Blokes, for interpreting the works so gently, stirringly and lovingly. Simply wonderful. Thank you all so very much.

Scherzo means “joke” or “prank” in Italian… it’s nice how the jovial and funny mood was so evident, and how they laughed throughout the performance

First piece beautiful. Felt like dancing with contentment on a warm day on a farm when the work is done for the day. Looking over a good days work and smiling to myself thinking, “all is settled.”

So many talented people out there! I throughly enjoyed every single piece and your performance. Also, I want to raise a word for the viola as an instrument too. It has such a beautiful deep and dense sound and makes the other instruments shine so much more. I’m not a pro musician or classical music expert, but I wanted to spend a cheering word for all the violists out there and tell them there are people who appreciate the instrument they chose.
@oldmanjeffrey2 жыл бұрын
Back in my day, we didn’t have any “friends” to play instruments with us. We would have to play the whole thing by ourselves! I remember fondly how kids would take a vacation to Chernobyl in hopes of growing other arms. Kids these days and their “help”.

1. oh my god that was MAGICAL. I loved it sooo much! 2. that was sooo gooood!!! I liked the vibe 3. that was sooo vivid! loved it so much omg it was funny and silly and all sooo good! 4. .... no words... just wow. 5. I love the melody ... most specifically when it starts out solo and introduced everyone else in 6. I am in love with this one... I've always loved slower compositions, especially those with such a sombre feel to them... it just MELTS my heart. This one was absolutely my favorite hands down.
