Well, Kleiner said in an earlier scene (If I remember correctly after playing this myself) that he always treated Gordon like a son. So when Kleiner said "Son of mine" I think Leon intended to show in that scene how close they were, despite not being related by blood - and not actually meaning that Gordon is his literal son.

the star trek assets are from an (as far as i know abandoned) mod for HL2 called Star Trek Enterprise: Temporal Cold War the assets first featured in part 1 with that room that zapped you into orbit using corridors and a phase cannon model and yes that one door beep was from star trek the ships at around the 26 minute mark are from the mod too

@@Wise_Person It could be one of two things 1.In HL2, When you don't have the HEV suit you can't die, so that in the game's intro the metro police can't actually kill you for example, same happens in Portal so the creators mightve forgotten to give you an actual HEV suit. 2. The creator wanted to turn on god mode for a cutscene for example and later on forgot to disable it again

I think the greatest tragedy is that there was _some_ good buried in this. I mean obviously not the story or the gameplay (though I think there is a place for action-orientated Half-Life mods, it needs to be done better than this and also not label itself as a sequel). But there are some merits to the visual design. Mishmash of random elements aside, there was some really good lighting in here, particularly at night. I'm admittedly sort of a sucker for good lighting, but even beyond that a lot of the visual effects were neat. Like the ship dropping out of the portal; that was pretty cool. Unfortunately even that is marred by a lot of the scenes not actually being 100% completed (A-poses and floating cars, ahoy!), and the absolutely nonsensical story means these neat sequences have no context for them; things just happen. Leon probably should have focused purely on the visuals, as that seems to be his strong suit (so long as he actually finishes the scenes instead of leaving them half-complete), and hand off level design and storytelling duties to other people. Also not bill this as a sequel to Half-Life.

15:05 I do believe there's an explanation somewhere either in-game or maybe the Ratman comics. The Borealis teleported out of the drydock which you can find at the bottom of the pit later in Portal 2. I don't recall exactly but either something went wrong with a Portal Device or the Borealis was an experiment to use a Portal Device to quickly transport large objects long distances, either way it accidentally teleported away and they couldn't find the exact teleport destination so they basically gave up on it, only for the Rebels to mount an expedition and locate it, and of course they end up being ambushed by Hunters and Combine soldiers

Okay, so a bunch of the clips near the end are for sure recreations of places from Star Trek:Enterprise. I know you guys mentioned thinking the cafeteria might be, but it is. There's so many more too. The corridors are Enterprise style corridors. Kleiner's medbay is actually Dr. Phlox's medbay. Barney's terrible jetbus is the Enterprise shuttlepod with four jets bolted on. Even that scene on the rooftop where the portal dissapears and you have to fight a bunch of not-combine I'm pretty sure is a recreation of a scene from one particular Enterprise episode. Which leads me to the conclusion that either Leon stole some sort of Star Trek RP map that is weirdly specific and very well done, or he's some sort of mapping genius who made a terrible mod for the lulz of it but also made a really good Enterprise texture set and map. I'm not sure which

Late comment, but yeah it's Star Trek content. There was a big Star Trek total conversion for Half-Life 2 being made at one point but it got cancelled, and Leon was given the assets by the developers. Basically The Closure is like the only preservation we have of that canceled Star Trek mod.

Just wanted to tell you that when you asked how Apature lost a whole ship, the Borealis was undergoing trial runs on the portal guns and other portal related technology and the tests went wrong if I’m correct, and the borealis ended up getting portalled or teleported or something to Antarctica.
