You missed out an important bit in the trailer. Slow the video down when the trailer says "He would stop at nothing" and watch those fast paced scenes carefully and you'll see why the idol does what he does. The FAN basically assaults someone in a way that benefits the actor(idol) but the bad press(media reports) tarnish the actor's image and so he disowns the FAN leading to the whole psychological thriller.
