When you combine one of the greatest songs of all time with a great singer (and the perfect one for this song), what you get is ... absolute magic! The notes he hits at the end give me goosebumps every time.

Thx for this! Art Garfunkel's solo career is painfully overlooked. My fave album of his is "Watermark", a collection of Jimmy Webb songs that Art just nails and which is also Paul Desmond's last recording. Geeky sidebar -- if you can find the early European pressing, I personally think its an amazing album, before the rec execs freaked out, pulled a track and inserted "(What A) Wonderful World" (still a great song) -- which is so different than the rest of the tenor of the rest of the amazing material, that have all just aged so well. Thx again!

Was that Larry Knechtel on piano who played and arranged the piano part on the original recording. Paul thought the song was just a nice little hymn and you hear that when you listen to Paul’s original demo with just him and guitar and not all the lyrics completed. Then when Larry started that arrangement on piano everyone knew this was one of those rare special songs. There is a documentary that shows the evolution of the song. By the way Paul Shaffer could easily have performed the piano part but if that was Larry Knechtel I can understand letting the one who created that magical piano part do the honors.
