Guess I'll never know unless I'm Lim Jong Hoon himself but I really wonder how he felt after he was narrowly defeated in this game. Did he feel great and proud about giving such a formidable challenge and almost beating Fan in his own backyard with the home crowd cheering feverishly? Or did he experience devastating disappointment because he lost the game he could've won with just a few shots going the other way? What an intense match this was!! Simply spellbinding!!

Unreal match!!! Battle of the quads. Both of them are absolute beasts. Lim is so underrated. FZD's mental toughness is out of this world. All the pressure is on him being number 1 and Chinese expectations are super high and he still manages to win. The highest level anyone has reached in TT ever. What a legend!!!

Lim Jonghoon simply oozes invention and talent. And he is a lefty, which helps too. It goes without saying that Fan is a such a machine - a human shot-by-shot computer, and Lim managed to force Fan into a decider DESPITE losing a close game earlier. Technically wonderful from both and great footwork, I'm so surprised a big dude (178cm) like Lim can move like that and still recover and get good weight transfer for the next ball. He looks like 80kg.

Just this morning I read people claiming Lim Jonghoon couldn't even take 2 games from FZD (after winning against Alexis Lebrun). What a load of bullshit! He's one of the most promising players and I really really wanted him to win against FZD. Damn, that was so close. Similar feelings when Ovtcharov lost against Ma Long during Olympics 2020 9:11 in the 7th. These losses break hearts

completely agree!! countries like korea and japan seem to be getting closer than ever (even france) and that’s not for lack of effort on the chinese side, the best players are the best they’ve ever been, but the sport is advancing as a whole!!!

the thing is lim jonghoon is younger and still has a future with many bigger tournaments ahead of him, dima's was sadder cuz he brought his greatest performance in what was probably his last olympics and actually could have won. He said that despite loosing to ma long so many times he really believed he could've done it

Great match to 7 by Lim. It was a power versus power match. If I was Fan's coach, there should be more variety to move Lim more with wider shots and other touches too. Lim made great shots and being a lefty was tough to play against. I am sure that the PRC team will take great notes and counter with Lim's play in the next tournament.

I'm very sure Wang Hao knows how to do that too. FZD wasn't ready a lot of times in the FH side when Lim was being aggressive. Was probably one of the reasons FZD was mostly on defense and Lim was exploiting that as much as he could. FZD relies a lot on his BH game.

When you have nothing to loose, you can just go crazy and that's what Lim did, but when you are trying to keep your domination, it's a completely different story. There were lots of nerves involved, otherwise, I cannot understand, why Fan made so many unforced errors with balls landing outside the table; it could be also part of the strategy to keep the ball long which did not get executed that well because of relentless offense from Lim (i'd like to point out again, that he had a very big vantage point and at this level state of mind is that edge that separates a great from a legend). Winning these matches and keeping the number 1 position in the world for so long and with such a high margin shows the true skill of a deserving number 1; consistency is something that people overlook many times and I think just like Ma Long, Fan is this era's Mr. dependable for China and my respect and awe for Fan has only increased after the last two clutch games that he managed to pull off from Lin shidong and now from Lim Jonghoon. I hope people appreciate more for what Fan is consistently able to deliver and achieve.

it is a very odd thing but Fan Zhendong often has a 'poor' start, losing more games in the beginning of the match but he catches up 'somehow' and he often wins by small point margins for example 11 vs 9 12 vs 10 and 11 vs 8 but something like 3 - 0 or 3 - 1

FZD is another G.O.A.T. Besides solid basic skill, mentality, on-court adjustments with cool head makes the difference between winner and loser. One hell of a game. BTW, Lin Shi Dong will take over as another FZD in a few short years (At the moment, he's on "TBD", a waiting list for the CNT. The Chinese tease him as "Little Rock" (Shi in Chinese rhyme with Rock) meaning he's short but solid. China has got sooooo much men power in TT, just amazing.
