I love what you've done here. I run Fanatec Podium base myself, but there is a large market who use these slightly lower end wheel bases that would've unlikely gotten the attention from Fanatec. You're definitely doing the people a service on this. Love your effort, design and matching aesthetics.

I would recommend to add a 2nd bearing in the middle of the extension shaft so the fulcrum is exerted from the 2nd further bearing to the 1st bearing. Right now there is a possibility that enough force will still break the rotor shaft because the fulcrum is at the back. It would require to design a custom faceplate (the part with the fanatec logo and power button) that would look like a funnel, to which the bearing would be inserted. This again would eliminate the forces on the rotor itself and instead shift them to both bearings.

Really nice solution, loves this engineer point of view, and the metal machined parts that looks top notch in your previous products. Right now I don't need the extension but maybe someday. If budget will be okay (and the need happens) then definetly would buy it from you, even that I could copy your idea in my garage.

I'm eagerly looking forward to more news on this. I almost bought the Brainexploder shaft extension but they don't account for the weakness of the plastic coupler like you did.

Yes, their product is flawed. I was looking at it and could not believe it is on the market. The breaking of the shaft is almost certainly going to happen eventually with non supported extension for the CSL DD, not to mention the awful flex feeling of the shaft. It would also not have a rigid feel and the plastic shaft would probably flex. This is now our first priority so stay tuned!

You are an absolute legend. This might be a dumb question, but what would it take to replace the cheap plastic drive shaft with a more durable metal one, instead of merely making extensions like this?

Yes, I am curious too, maybe some disassembly video will cover the shaft replacement. But still extra bearing as support point makes sense even with metal shaft because removes extra tension from stock support points and bearings.

You can't, it is deeply integrated with the rotor. It is impossible to disassemble, it is how the shaft is manufactured.

Can you please create a DD QR2 adapter, that isn't longer, but has a rotation between the two sides so the there is a magnet notch exactly at the top and not slightly to one side right now?

Did Fanatec change the material of the shaft O.o My old release CSL DD has clearly a metal shaft. I had a metal clamp on it because the original clamp is dogshit but my metal clamp was a mm to small and dig a bit in the shaft and on this place i can see a silver mark.

CSL DD has plastic shaft from day one. They call it carbon composite shaft.

You probably think only about qr1 shaft, that is made from metal. But inside the base is another shaft that is plastic (fanatec calls it carbon composite). You just slide qr1/qr2 metal shaft into the plastic one inside the base.

I believe it should work the same, the difference is in the looks of the outer casing. I should get my hands on one and make the changes. We will see if enough people would be interested. I am over my head in time consumed on this, hope it will be worth it.

What is the purpose for the extension ?

To be able to lower the screens down between the base and the wheel rim. This way you can have realistic view of the dashboard as it is in the real car. You can check the rest of the channel for more info and demo material.

Another premium piece of electronics designed to fail…..it’s becoming almost a given nowadays, built to last the warranty, if that, then it fails! Was looking at a gt did pro wheel but no way am I buying fanatic now.
