The extra paddles would be great on a standard round rim for non-racing games. Useful for indicators, headlight flashing, wiper modes, etc that feel a little more immersive than pressing buttons on the wheel as you would usually use the stalks behind the wheel for those. You could also potentially map those analog triggers to look left and right depending on what Fanatec and the game supports if you don't want to map the wheel joystick to something else. It would be nice if they produced a stalk module that could attach directly to the wheelbase in some way that gave you two stalks that acted like their funky switches. It would be great so see more hardware built for simulation driving rather than just focusing on racing though it's probably an even more niche market.

the 'extra' shifters are well suited for push to pass functions such as ERS and DRS. Some prefer the front functionality and some on the back of the wheel. I personally use them to look left and right and works pretty great ...push both at the same time and it look behind you.

@Jenson Ristevski I totally understand your pain. Coming from the flight sim world and having to accept a PC joystick will *never* be able to get 1:1 forces with the real thing, I’ve come to peace with low forces to avoid clipping in the racing sims. I just can’t justify the money for a direct drive wheel, plus the super solid cockpit you need to hold it up. And at that point, I’m not seeing enough of a difference between my geared wheel and a belt wheel to change that, when I could be spending money on a pedal set with a force transducer for the brake...

I am running that exact wheel and setup. I use it for both F1 and ACC. The top shifters I use for my engine modes, left for down right for up on ACC. Another good use for them is for your turn signals(left and right) and headlight flashers(both) for F1 I don't use them at all. You can really just set them up for anything though. As far as your fingers on the shifters, try using your index fingers instead of your middle finger for shifting I have found that much more comfortable.

I had a the shifter module in my cart for like months as I deliberated making the jump from the G920 to the DD1 and f1v2. Didn't pull the trigger though as I figured the stock paddles would be good enough (for now). I still think the micro's feel great, but was curious. I did adjust the throw on them with the tiny (almost invisible) set screw. I appreciate your (as always) candid review. Your logic and reasoning completely resonates with me. I'll probably end up spending even more money...so thanks for that.
@spiritchaser4337 Жыл бұрын
The G920 is a goat wheel, can’t believe you’re still using that. The DD1 is in a total different category, wrong to compare those two.
@BenjaminBauckham3 жыл бұрын
Before I got my Fanatec stuff, I had a magnetic mod for my g920, so I knew if I went back to just spring shifters for the V2 I'd probably be disappointed, I decided on getting the clubsport magnetic shifters instead of the podium ones, one, because they are about 70 euros cheaper, two, because as far as I can tell, theres no difference in quality, and three, already have a clutch pedal and the V2 has so many buttons already I couldn't really justify getting the podiums, having used my new gear for about a month now, I can safely say the magnetic paddles were essential for me, I agree the standard shifters are okay, certainly less fatiguing, but I suppose once you experience magnetic shifters, it's hard to go back 😅 But for anyone considering the fanatec padels, consider the cheaper clubsport option if you feel you don't need the extra padels 😊

I've got the Formula V2 with the APM on a DD1 and i absolutely love them. However, a GT3 car isn't the best car to test it with imo. Especially because of the dual clutch pedals it's mostly aimed at open wheelers i think (However i've made some ridiculous starts in the MX-5 on iRacing with it haha) . Also because of the 2 extra ''shifters'' at the top which are mostly used for KERS and DRS which of course is mostly an open wheel thing. But still i think it's a great upgrade. Not only because of the clutch pedals but also because of the feeling of the shifters itself.

I've played so long without additional shifter paddles that I just got used to doing everything on face buttons. Now that I have this paddle module, I can't think of anything that I might need to bind it to. DRS/ERS is already on the right/left most face button and everything else I need has its place. So I genuinely don't know what else I need it for.

had the formula v2 for a while but never really got on with it as it did cramp the hands a bit but most annoyingly i had one where the plastic on the rear would click and creak, speaking to some other people that have had it they said if you press the top of the wheel where the plastic meets the carbon front there is a soft spot in the centre where fanatec probably should have put a clip or something as that seems to be the point of flex and creaking meaning even after i stripped the wheel down and loctite all screws etc i would still get the odd click from the rim, really annoying because you feel it in the hands, i now use the porsche gt3 podium rim with the APM solely and its rock solid super quiet.
