Fancy GoldFish Cube! Ryukin, Calico, Lionhead, Shubunkin. Pleco cleaning time lapse!

60 Gallon Fancy Goldfish Cube.
I saved all algae on the sides of the tank for the first 10 days.
Then I bought an Ancistrus pleco, L144, aka brizzlenose pleco.
This video is day 1 to day 8, so we can see how good a algae eating pleco really is. :-)

The Shubunkin was a stunted rescue... tried power feeding him, but he will never reach his full size. Normaly a regular or shubunkin can not live in a 60 G cube. They get HUGE!

Your Pleco did an amazing job cleaning the glass! Wow your Shubunkin has gorgeous colors! Love those long fins! ❤️ I just brought my three Long Fin Shibunkin in for the winter. I keep them in a 150 gallon stock tank in the basement until Spring 🥰

This was amazing, wow what a huge difference! I'm so glad you showed how well bristle nose Plecos contain algea. Animals and nature, caring for them and enjoying the beautiful work of God, always helps me out of what I call the dark rabbit hole. I lost a son to cancer when he was only 4-1/2 years old and it destroyed me. Working with animals and nature keeps me happy, brings me joy and reminds me of the blessings of life. Got to love the pleco! I actually killed my first two when I started in the hobby from not supplementing them extra food thinking they can live off the algae in the tank! They are eating machines! Tank looks good Zack

Hmmm? I thought this was a good idea as well, then all my gold fishes fins were splitting. Turned out the bristle nose plec was splitting their fins when sucking the slime off the fish whilst they were a sleep. I returned the plec to the shop and all the fins were heeled two weeks later. Real shame as I loved that little plec :(

Chris Lock Has happened with big Plecos, but never with Brizzlenose. Are you sure you have Pleco L144? It must be really underfed to do that.

No it wasn't underfed, it's the first thing I looked at. I supplemented with algae wafers on top of the algae in the tank to make sure. The plec was basically pooing well if that's any indication, and it's belly wasn't pitted. I had know idea it was the Bristle nose splitting the fins until my research pointed to others that had the same problem. I think The Plecs suck on everything and possibly don't differentiate that it's a fish they are sucking on. Having said this I've heard that they can be partial to the fishes slime coat. My bristle nose was only a few inches long with short bristles, so quite a young one.

See how the calico keeps swimming on his side? Tall cube like aquariums are not good for fancies and encourage swim bladder issues. Algae is healthy for your fish and water and I don't suggest removing it. I love Ryukins. Lovely fish otherwise.

Otherwise you will starve the plecos, because the goldfish get all food. And then they will eventually start eating on the goldfish slime coat.

Aren't plecos fascinating. They poop a lot though. Mine is shy during the day and he lives with my Flowerhorn. She is always in a bad mood. Poor Homer the pleco lives with a wicked witch Flowerhorn.
