I'd rather see 15 goldfishes in a 1000L aquarium than 3 goldfishes in a 20L one, sure it's not usual and goldfish are often overlooked by aquarists for beeing not enough fancy or too common, I love how it turn out in this setup, they're like chill giants in a micro world.

Actually I loved seeing the goldfish in a natural looking tank for a change. They're so often kept in bare minimum tanks it was nice seeing something new.
@philcarlino69422 жыл бұрын
The only major problem I see is the water temp. Goldfish like it around 22 C, and GB rams like it around 28 C; a pretty large disparity and a middle ground will just shorten both of their lives. But appearance wise, I think it looks very nice. Thanks for the update, MJ. Take care.
@philippecapron80102 жыл бұрын
Actually goldfishes are really tolerant, at least the normal type and i've got some that are more than 30 years old in an garden aquarium (4000l) which is over 29°C at the bottom in summer and freezes in winter so 4°C at the bottom. I'm more "saddened" by the type of goldfish chosen when you know the level of inbreeding done to obtain stable abnormalities of this lvl... But at least those ones should be as happy as a fish can be

I like it. I love planted goldfish tanks. People think you can’t do it but you absolutely can. All of these species are tolerant of temp variations and none are aggressive. Should be fine if there’s no fin nipping or goldfish eating the small ones. I think the main issue would actually be making sure everyone eats. Some are faster than others. And the other issue would be regular water changes but that seems easy here.

BEAUTIFUL aquarium! I agree that the rams have got to go! But aside from that, it will just be a natter of time before they decide to eat the plants or not. My goldies don't touch of my anubias, ferns, or buce plants. But lobelias cardinalis, and any other plants will be eaten. The only other plants I have had luck with are red plants. They seem to freak mine out a bit and wont even nibble on them at all. The bright side to this stocking is no ferts needed here!

Surely the aquarium temperature will be an issue? I know goldfish can tolerate higher temperatures for the short term, I don't see how the health of cold water and tropical fish will be good long term. I'm sorry but just not keen on mixing them ☹️
@Josh_Stuchbery2 жыл бұрын
A big misconception is that goldfish are 'cold water fish', when really they are 'temperate' fish. This means they can live in a wide range of temperatures. Plenty of people who live in tropical climates keep goldfish without ever having a problem.
@goldfishinaflex40302 жыл бұрын
Depends on where the goldfish were bred. Those bred in Asia (Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, etc) live in warm temperatures ranging from 24 to 31 degree celcius throughout the year.

to my surprise it looks great. I strongly suspect that that substrate will definitely show the excess waste load after 6 months or so, thats a very light colored tank bed and those fish will strain the substrate appearance with waste even with that massive filtration setup. But if they can afford that tank customization and setup, they can afford someone to do the hard work of maintaining that level of cleanliness. Good for them, it keeps people employed! And if they do it all themselves, also good for them!

The biggest issue with this combination is the different husbandry requirements, right? Temp wise he’s going to make the goldfish suffer by keeping it warm, the rams suffer by keeing it cooler, or make both suffer by meeting in the middle.

I like it. Think the owner made the right decision by going for originality. “Weird” is not the right word imo: it’s just different from what most sheeple go with these days.
@888fluffy2 жыл бұрын
'sheeple'? I mean, there's a reason more experienced aquascapes pick certain stocking. it's not just a fashion trend. Fancy goldfish are large, inbred, and they eat plants, not really a good fit for most aquascapes. balloon rams aren't preferred because of the inbreeding too. I keep cpds, shrimp and otos because it's tried and true. they get along so well, and they're so suited to the aquascape. i don't want to have to constantly worry about fish not liking the Scape or not getting along. I've had the Scape up for the years and haven't ever had a problem with the fish, which leaves all my time for the Scape. sometimes there's a reason the popular combos are popular.

I’ve always loved fancy goldfish. When I had some, they were in a community tank. As long as everyone gets along, and the owner loves it, who cares? The only question I would have is how the goldfish get along in the depth of the tank? I’ve always ‘heard’ they should be kept in longer, shallower depth. Not sure if that was urban legend or not. I had mine in a 30 long.

I wonder what will happen when the Goldfish get older and (even) bigger. I've had some of my tropical fish in an emergency quarantaine tank with some of my Goldfish (emergency situation) and they ate and/or decapitated pretty much anything in there.. Neon Tetra, guppies, platies,.. I'm telling you they WILL try and eat any fish that is smaller than them! I had to manually remove an otocinclus that was stuck in my Goldfish's mouth. So good luck 😁🙈

How can goldfish live in tropical water?
@mrfish.-2 жыл бұрын
I would’ve gone for something like a group of koi angelfish, otherwise the scape and plants look gorgeous! I can’t bother but feel a little uncomfortable with the stocking, cardinal tetras and rams thrive in warm soft waters, goldfish and guppies feel comfortable in cooler harder water, and as the goldfish grow they might choke and die on the corydoras spines as they’re foraging on the bottom. But hey, the fish look happy and the owner looks like he’s gonna take good care.
@acuatruco22942 жыл бұрын
Technically the fishes on this aquarium don't share same parameters. But the main issue is going to be showing in a few moths if you placed inside female guppies...the owner is going to have a hard time collecting them. Otherwise there will be thousands in short time.

Those fancy goldfish look stunning in there but they'll eventually tear everything apart. I don't mind the small fish, I like the look of schools of tetras in a big tank, however the guppies will multiply uncontrollably so that may not be so good. The people suggesting discus and angels... meh I think they're overrated, they're the fancy obvious choice for livingroom aquariums and they have become all too common imho. I think there are other equally fancy stocking choices that aren't the typical discus or angels
@theaquascapecorner2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you, I think they look really good, but I don't think the tank will last that long with the goldfish in there. I think some other bright orange fish should go in instead, as the green really makes their colour pop. some albino cherry barbs would be stunning in there
@abi57392 жыл бұрын
Looks so beautiful... BUT goldfish + no ferts + plants look like a bomb timer to me. I'd be worried at some point that the plants may have one or more nutrient deficiency, and that may cause algae on plants, and goldfish will start attacking algae and destroy plants by doing that. Who knows, wish this scenario won't happen, and this aquarium remains breath taking

I just find it so concerning that the owner spent so much money on that aquarium but did so little research on the compatibility of the temperatures that the fish like and should be kept in. Like the rams schould be in at least 26°C and goldfish are seen as coldwaterfish so that will just slowly kill them both. A bit disappointed that this is shown on camera without saying that this in not how they should be kept and that it's killing them slowly. :/ You're maybe thinking that I'm overreacting but for me this is fish abuse.

I love this aquarium. Its beautiful. BUT. It does call into ethics and I would hate myself for complimenting the tank, If I didnt bring up the ethics of ornamental goldfish and balloon Mollys. Yes they are beautiful and pleasing to the eye. But being bred to look like this is unethical. Mainly due to the constraints on the fish and its life.
