Autotune doesn't make a bad singer sounds better, it corrects pitch. If they overdo it, it will sound robotic, a singer needs to sing super close to the note they need to sing too. Just throwing it out there.

One of the main reasons why it was made is to help artists preserve their voice during recording if the artist was off one note, instead of repeating the whole run, they use autotune to correct that. TPAIN used it for style, not to fix his voice. JT’s Sexy Back was heavily auto-tuned too, but no one criticized him for it. The whole FUTURE SEX/Love machine used A LOT OF AUTOTUNE.

Any interested parties should listen to Mashup. It's him singing with his natural voice alongside accompaniment from a violinist and a pianist. He put it out when I was still in highschool and it melted me away. His voice is gorgeous and has so much power. The first time I heard it I decided that's he's the first person I'll duet on a track if I get to his level one day.
