Listenening to this today, Fanny's 216th birthday. So beautiful. A great pleasure. Thanks to Google for reminding the public of Fanny and her music. And thank you, Miss Zhu. Like her brother's, Fanny's life was much too short. The world is the poorer.

@@melindanichols4929 I'd argue it's not lost. There's lots of historical records. However, there are certain areas completely undocumented such as the Baroque minuet.

Great! ❤️ Fanny Mendelssohn was a true genius of music, like her brother of her, but unfortunately she is still little known, especially here in Italy. It must be made known more and more. Her genius is at the same level as the great giants of music and therefore she must be made known in concerts, in theaters, to the general public, as well as in strictly musical environments.

So beautiful Das Jahr ....my reference is the performance of Anna Shelest... that performance is the best one, for me...

Thanks a lot for bringing to life this wonderful piece by Fanny Mendelssohn, whose work is so unknown and deserves her right place in the history of piano music. Thanks again, you play it beautifully.

Thank you for helping me discover a highly underrated, virtually unknown female composer. I read up on Fanny Mendelssohn when I saw the Google Doodle on her birthday. Apparently her father squelched her career, telling her that although her brother could make music his career, for her music could only be an "adornment" - she should focus on getting herself married and become a good wife and mother. She probably would have been told something similar even had she not had a musically gifted brother. At least her music is finally getting the attention it deserves. Better late than never?

Her Hiob cantata is wonderful....on you tube you find a performance with Remmereit Arild or something like this..... Really wonderful....and also an Oratorio in the version with the Stuttgart philharmonic orchestra and very good singers.... Beautiful really.....these two performances are very good because of the tempi....

This will appear in my 11th music and art history mystery; far better than Liszt's musical response to his Italian journey! My previous "Krimi" is on Clara Schumann, The Schumann Shaming--and while writing it I learned that Fanny and Clara did know each other later in life; in fact Fanny plannd to dedicate one of her compositions to her but died before she could arrange that with her publisher.

Had Fanny heard Chopin's Study op. 25 no. 12 when she wrote June? The closing pages are remarkably similar.

i never heard Das Jahr, until this, nor have I heard any of her fugues. I plan to correct that omission. Bravo Fan! If its one thing I'm sick to death of is male whitewash. My mother died when she was 92 and she never heard any Fanny or Amy Beach or hundreds of other gifted women. Even now, look at the number of views for this performance. Eat you heart out you men! you should play as well as Madeline or compose anything half as good as Fanny. Men always try to bury what they can't compete with..
