Norfolk & Western J Class Northern 4-8-4 611 HD 60fps: In & Around Manassas, VA VRE Station (6/4/16)

Back and forth in Manassas VRE and Amtrak Station on June 4th, 2016. Skip ahead to 8:48 for the real action. The whistle is much nicer this year (as it's an actual J whistle off of older sister 610), though I still wish Claytor would give 611 back its pride and joy. Enjoy =)

According to those I spoke with the weekend of May 7 & 8, 611 now has her original whistle, and it sure sounds like it to me. I have a good memory, but I also have Winston's recordings for reference. :) I was about to start a money raising effort to have a new Hancock 3 chime long bell unit built. I found a man with the drawings and capabilities to do it.

I still think that the whistle that Claytor has possession of sounded the best.

I agree. The one Preston Claytor has is still the ABSOLUTE best of the bunch, even though I still love the improvement this year over the "duck crying out for mercy" UP Hancock of 2015 :)

All the Js sounded the same and they all originally had Hancock 3 chime long bell units. Last year 611 was wearing a "replica" that wasn't. It did sound a lot like a UP whistle, but it was not.

Yes... and that replica belongs to Cheri George. It was nice of her to lend it, but boy did it sound terrible...

I did not even realize that the latest iPhone models took such clear, crisp footage these days. I think to some extent, this footage you took could even compete pretty well against many HD camcorder models out there! This is really cool. You have some great perspectives in your shots, too. That's why I gave your video a like... :) By the way, I was on board the Iowa coach on this June 4th excursion. I wonder if I ever saw you out the window amongst all the other crowds of wonderful people there to admire 611 that day...
