This affects MLB more than NHL/NBA because both the NHL/NBA being in their playoffs, their games are covered NATIONALLY. So lack of local RSN coverage is minimal.

It really is time for all of the leagues to completely discontinue their ties to Bally's. I'm not even sure why Bally's and RSNs in general are still a thing anymore. I'm glad in Utah and Arizona their teams are all on broadcast networks exclusively now, it's time for the rest of the markets in the country to follow suit.

Without watching the video (because I research this kind of thing almost daily), this was bound to happen. FS1 costs subscribers $3 a month on their cable bill. Bally Sports? That costs $8-10 a month (Detroit-area Comcast customers will be receiving a credit to their accounts in that amount). Bally Sports was charging way too much in an era where less people are watching cable than ever.

I miss Ted Turner and whoever owned the Chicago Cubs during that time period. Instead of trying to milk every single penny out of their fans they were much more concerned with gaining as many fans as possible across the entire country. RSN's? Forget about it. They didn't just want their region to watch the games. They wanted *everyone* to be able to watch their games and be able to do it for free. For decades every baseball fan in America could turn their tv to TBS Superstation or WGN and watch every single Braves game and Cubs game for free. Now those teams have two of the largest nationwide fanbases in the US because so many people could watch the teams and fall in love with them. Bally has done a terrible job since buying the RSN's from Fox but I will say this: If I have to pick a side in this it would be Bally. It sounds like Comcast/Xfinity wants to charge *all of us* sports fans even more $ every month by cutting the sports out of our current "bundle" and then force us to pay more money and pay for a bunch of other channels they know damn well we don't want. If Bally has a problem with that I can understand because so do I. They already bundle way too much together anyway. I already have to pay for hundreds of channels and there are less than 10 of them I watch. 90% of channels are pure garbage. Now Comcast want us to pay more money for them to add more garbage to the pile? Pardon my French but f*ck that. If Bally Sports is against that happening I agree with Bally. If Comcast does that or doesn't carry my teams I will cut the cord and go to another service.

Television and regional networks made local sports teams accessible without having to go to the game or listen in radio. Brought in lots of revenue for everyone. But as a customer I’m not paying for MLB or Center Ice who still won’t allow you to watch h your team. Won’t take long and when the team is on your TV then out of sight out of mind and people don’t go to the games either.

The days of the RSNs seem numbered. Contracts with the leagues are getting more expensive and the RSN's can't really add more commercial breaks. The product will start to look like NASCAR, more commercials less action. Heck it's part of the reason Hockey RSNs have added board and on ice graphics the last year or so. Frankly I think the leagues would be better to cut out the middle man and go streaming based and for cable offer add-on packs. It would just be great to have all games available without blackouts and the looming threat of the channels going away. Yeah the league would have to sell the advertising which would be a lift but they would also get the reality check on what their product is worth. They also could offer a premium ad free tier similar to what WWE does with Peacock PLE events. Indycar has been awesome since moving to a NBC/Peacock hybrid simulcast. You can watch from anywhere, watch the events after you miss them, and if you do get Peacock you get access to practice and qualifying. It's really great to have a constant platform, flexibility to watch when and wherever and if you subscribe you get more entertainment value.
