My version's knee was also stuck exactly the same. It was from the paint application and a bit came off when i finally got it moving, so now he has a bit of a skinned knee.

Every time I see the transformation it still amazes me with the color change. There is almost no blue in the bot mode, and most of the blue you do see from the front in the bot mode (the arms) is not part of the truck's blue parts at all.

Gears is an odd character but I think FT has nailed it. Paint looks amazing and the transformation looks lightyears better than their Powerglide. Btw, I think the two weapons can attach to each other to form a rifle.

I agree with you on the blue paint. It’s metallic…but not like Chrome, and not the matte with metallic flecks in the paint…it’s like a satin/silky metallic.

You're right - It has a finish, which isn't true for all FT metallic paint.

Great review Bobby. That blue does pop…this might be the best face sculpt I have seen from FT. The captured all of his facial expressions perfectly.

For the most part, yeah I would agree. Variator is solid! Their FT-54 Warthog (Powerglide) really left me disappointed, though. I'm almost convinced it was a design based on old engineering and to redo the R&D would have been too costly. FT just said "F it, we're invested in this now. Ship it!"

@@darkaurori yeah the DX9 has qualities over the FT from the knees point of view, but guys FT has the better "shelve presence". But i was thinking more as a collection of mini bots, compared to Badcube and XTB offerings, FT just seem to hit better at this moment in time :)

FT does look better than Bad Cube, but in bot mode the only real differences are in the legs.

Still seems a bit overly fiddly, unfortunately. I just think Gears should be much simpler to engineer because he's not that complex a design. Regardless, it looks good enough. I don't love the cartoony look but I think the robot has far better proportions (and feet) than the BadCube one. I've got most (but not all) of FansToys' Minibots, so this one will be joining them. It's not perfect but it'll do.

Not sure you could make anything realistic looking out of this and still be Gears. That's just how most of the minibots are, especially the cars.

Love the bot mode but the alt mode looks so dumb. The slanted hood is to capture him being drawn badly in a few shots and it just looks bad imo. Would love to pick him up but I don't know if I can justify the money when Badcube gets me there. Good review, Bobby.

Bobby, what is the backstory between you and Tiger Tracks? Back when your review set up was the gray cloth and PVC piping, you use to throw Tiger Tracks around like you hated him.

It's a KO, the only one he owns iirc, because the retail release was a joke pretty much everywhere price wise. He he gets the rough stuff as he doesn't matter but can take it.

Was a while back (and I do have the memory of a goldfish), but thought it was more because it's a representation of him buying something for the sake of buying something without having ANY connection to the character at all. Just getting caught up in a new release - so Tigertracks was kept as a reminder so as not to get caught up in that again

Why are fanstoys transformations always so flimsy looking? Seriously? I got out of this hobby years ago but it never ceases to amaze me every time a new overpriced FT release comes out and it gets to the transformation and...yep. Teeny, tiny thin flimsy panels everywhere.
