And even when it does, I can't recall a single song being made specifically with the show's canon in mind. It's always been a headcanon, or a song SLIGHTLY about a character, which really can just be about anyone in that character's situation.

I really think music might be one of the MLP fandom's strongest avenues for creativity. Not everyone here is a great musician obviously but there are still so many good and even great ones in here. I remember at one point we had monthly lists to try and cover all the most popular brony music.

I'm certainly not into the MLP fandom, but Vylet Pony is flat out a brilliant composer. I will always stand by her best work is Mystic Acoustics as a whole. I've listened to the entire album hundreds of times. It an incomparable experience! (Also the song Trepidity is wonderful as well)

It's a really biased and closeminded thing to just dislike something because it's about a certain subject or culture. What's it about doesn't really affect the quality of a product. He's my all time favourite musician, and despite his name, his songs don't use any pony imagery besides relating to characters in the show. If someone listened to them without prior knowledge, there's no way they'd know it's Brony Music. Some others include Metajoker, Namii, Sherclop Pones, Slyphstorm. Also tracks like Lullaby for a Princess, Anthropology, Snowdrop. The best way to find artists is to go to channels who do covers and find who made the originals. You can find a lot of hidden gems that way There is just so so much amazing music in the fandom though, you'll never run dry of good tunes if you keep on digging. Some stuff I listen to once or twice, but others I'll listen to the day I go under.
