Guys, it was me. I promised Fantano that I’d help him defend pop-punk, but I became disillusioned with my mission and betrayed him. It was like the Horus Heresy from 40k, except he was the bald one. Also, I didn’t really become disillusioned, I was kinda planning to betray him from the start tbh

Bowling For Soup is perfect for Friend Like Me. They've never taken themselves super seriously and just seem to like making fun pop punk music and I respect that. Also, shout out to their singer Jaret. I recently saw an article about them and noticed that he put on some weight since the last time I saw him. Apparently, he has depression and has started being open about it and how he's trying to get healthy again. Glad he's still performing and the band is still playing shows. Takes some real stones to be back in the public eye and knowing that there will be some jerks who make mean comments about it. And it's just punk asf to not give a fuck about that!

In Sweden we had this: The Flintstones had 10 compilations, where of Volume 1-7 was part of the main series Yabba-Dabba-Dance. The other titles: Yabba-Dabba-Dance Best of 1995, Mix Volume 1-2, Fred is Back and Yabba-Dabba-Hits. The Smurf/Smurfarna had 10 Smurfhits, which was followed by 3 Smurfparty. Actual songs were re-written and sung with a Smurf-like voice.

Meet Me @ the Altar really is such a good band, so I'm glad to hear they did well here! Something I think the singer Edith does differently than some of the others here is that it sounds like she sings with the back of her mouth and throat open rather than closed. I'm not a vocal coach, just a recovering choir kid, so Idk if that makes sense. Try saying the short a sound vs the short o sound and you'll probably feel the difference in your throat. Point is, even though the tone's recognizeable for pop punk, singing in this way gives her voice more stability and strength to handle those upper/belty notes and makes it sound less whiny and thin like a lot of the other entries. Still...why does this compilation exist 😭

Thank you for the confirmation bias lol. I listened to this album as pretty much the exact target audience. I like BFS' "Goes to the Movies" and NFG's "From the Screen to your Stereo" Series. I'm a Millennial Disney kid that was into emo/pop/punk when I was a teen. I found this album to be pretty tepid, at best. I really am interested in who selected and approved the tracks because not only were the selections both obvious ("Let it Go") and confusing ("Colors of the Wind") at the same time, the quality both in layout and production was just all over the place. Some tracks sound so overproduced it really takes away from the aesthetic, where others sound like they've been sitting on a shelf since the late 90s and no one did a compression pass on them before this release. However, that being said, I do think there are some standouts and I enjoyed them. "I2I" is an easy one and I think its very clear that everyone knew it, as its the one they released to hype the album. "You'll Be in My Heart" was honestly shocking to me how good it was, as I anticipated it being terrible. It sounds almost like if Genesis had recorded the song and not just Phil Collins, in a weird way. I'll give an honorable mention to "Remember Me". ONLY because I hadn't ever watched "Coco" and was like, "Huh, this song is ok. Maybe I should watch Coco." And then did and really enjoyed it. So not only was it my first exposure to the song, but it led to me finding a really good movie. My review is a Generous 4/10, but I totally see why its less for most people.

I know it's Disney, I know I shouldn't expect the suits to understand the art, but making a pop-punk cover of "Remember me" misses the entire point of the song being so simple and goes back to the spectacle that De la Cruz made of it (you know, the villain who stole the song)

If they really wanted punk, they would've covered "Song of the South".

Meet Me at The Altar goes so hard. They have a cover of the song from Freaky Friday, they could easily revive pop goes punk and not phone it in. LOVE THEM

Remember me starts off (as the audience sees it) as a pop song it is completely reasonable that a pop punk band would get it having said thst they could've don't way better with it

Disney had some of these bands play live at their big expo in August and the Disney millennials were eating that shit up. I don't think the marketing really worked though because even the Disney vlogger that used to be in a pop punk band would still just rather see the bands live than listen to a cover of a song he grew up with. Maybe 8f they released it on vinyl, some collectors might put it between their Mousercise and Mickey Mouse Disco albums.

"Disney just invaded pop punk" Nah, some pop punk acts just accepted a Disney paycheck. Whatever that might have been. Or some agency/rep had a deal that the acts LITERALLY could not refuse. Like contractually

"No one to tell us no, or where to go" There's the problem right there. Somebody should have told them no, and EXACTLY where to go.

Would have been a lot cooler with hardcore punk and skacore covers. Or call up Me First and the Gimme Gimmes and hand them $100000000 in MouseBucks instead

This isn't the first time Disney does something like this. They released 7 Disneymania albums, with a similar theme, covers of their classic songs by pop artists. I still love Ashley Tisdale's version of "Kiss The Girl" and Smash Mouth's "I Wanna Be Like You"

On the topic of disney covers I want to shout out Suburban Legends for some pretty great Ska Covers of "Under the sea", "I just can't wait to be king" and "Duck Tales" They really went for it and deserve more recognition!
