Great vid bro. People are afraid of serrated. And they say, it's not useful. I have cut a seat belt, on an upside-down car, on fire. Serrated, made a fast job of it. Like you showed. It's not that hard, to sharpen. And don't tell, a boat men. Or a diver, serrated is no-good. Thank you, for your video.

Having declared my dissatisfaction with this sharpener last night kzbin.infoUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ I thought about the problem some more. It occurred to me that I might be undoing each attempt at achieving a sharp edge by the repeated attempts. So, I tried to clean up the unsatisfactory result by honing with only positions 3 and 4.Miracle!! A really nicely sharpened chef's knife, more than enough to handle my needs. Admittedly, it did not reach professionally sharpened razor-fineness, but it is now significantly sharper than it was. A bout of breaking down carrots convinced me. So, major apologies to the manufacturer, Amazon, and all happy and potential owners! Follow the directions: don't buy it if you have ceramic blades; and don't overwork your knife blade.

For fibrous materials serrated edges take the cake! On condition you have the proper sharpening tool with you, I favor a serrated edge vs. a plain one for edc. As far as a defensive purpose is concerned, serrated edges will create a much more devastating cut vs. a plain edge (all other things being equal). Nice presentation by the way!

I have always just held the knife with the serrated edge facing up and tried to match the angle (similar to the technique for field sharpening a straight edge blade). It works ok but I will definitely give your technique a try…it looks like it will give a more consistent result.

Thanks for posting this video, I just bought a Spirit X like yours. Btw, I submitted an idea to Victorinox SAK for a Felix Immler inspired knife with a Fork 🍴, knife and spoon 🥄 called the Woodsman and Woodsman Plus, with your ideas. So you don't have to eat with sticks anymore. I hope they will manufacture it, in your homage. Keep up the awesome videos! Christmas 🎄 time is here! Wouldn't that be a treat to have people buying a SAK knife with your ideas. Cheers, 🍻 Chris from USA
